CRAPPY MINI-FILL, I'M NOT REALLY A WRITER SO I'M SORRY 1a

I don't know much about nuclear winters other than what I remember vaguely from school so… all I know is some kind of chemical would make everything really, really cold. Sorry if it's crap, I haven't written anything fiction in years, and that was for school.
They moved farther south, because even if everywhere is fucking cold, at least the "hottest" part of the world is livable. Well, livable when you're wearing multiple layers of clothing, anyway.
Hank - he's been Hank since that day when all this mess had come to head - managed to rig a machine that could convert energy into heat. Energy like, say, plasma blasts. It kind of worked out, everyone got to be toasty warm, and Alex didn't have to be so in control all the time.
Honestly, he'd expected to die when he saw that bright, awful light coming from the sub. Certainly, it felt like he was dying, but when the world stopped burning he looked down to see himself glowing. Fucking freaky, especially since it kind of looked like he was about to blow something (or someone) to bits.
------------------------------
But that's just what he looked like now. Red and glowing like a lantern. At least his codename can still be Havoc. Who the hell would want a codename based off being a human lantern?
It took some getting used to, the changes. They all looked different now. Raven and Hank looked the same, but everyone who used to look, well, 'normal' is now just another member of the full-fledged freak brigade. Alex is still not sure if that makes the blue members of their family lucky, or just makes all of them extremely unlucky.
What was lucky was how powerful they were now. Mr. Lensherr (Magento? Erik? Alex didn't know what to call him anymore) pulled metal from the ground and formed it into shack for them, which thankfully has insulation and other stuff now. To look at Erik, you'd think he was even more unapproachable than in his hell-bent on revenge days, his body looked like liquid metal and it often moved and shifted in dizzying ways.
Charles (also glowing, like a star that decided to walk the Earth. Alex was just happy not to be the only stupid lantern-guy) looked for for others every morning, but any remaining mutants were pretty far away. Alex tries not to think about Charles' ability to scan all of North and South America, and bits of elsewhere, without any kind of help. The first few days, when all of them were having trouble with their powers, Charles was always in everyone's head. He drove himself practically to a mental breakdown trying to close himself off and control it before Erik finally sat everyone down and laid down the law. Charles would be allowed to sit inside everyone's head, since it seemed his telepathy refused to block out people Charles cared and worried about, and everyone else would just suck it up. It probably should have been a little scarier, having someone listening in on him all the time, but it was actually kind of… nice. To know someone was there, that the cared about him enough to want to feel what he was feeling all the time.
------------------------------
Food was always an issue. The had a home, such that is was, and they'd managed to find a good supply of fresh water, but there were no plants, no animals, and most other places to get food had been blown to bits. Too bad that red fucker left. Even if it would have been stressful to have him around (seeing as he's not family, and couldn't be trusted), it would have been a hell of a lot nicer than having to go out scavenging every day. So far they were all right, there was a big place not to far from them that didn't have much damage, and a fairly good stock of food. They all knew, though, that they had to keep looking for more, because who the hell knew how long it would be cold for? If it's summer now, how bad is actual winter going to be?
Too bad all the fridges are broken, he missed ice cream.

Everyone was really surprised by Erik. Or, well, Alex was. Charles probably wasn't. Or, at least, he never seemed shocked by Erik. It was like there was a brand new person who sounded like Erik, but acted totally different. Maybe it was because Charles was off his head for first week, and couldn't take charge, but Erik single-mindedly focused on their survival. Okay, so maybe he wasn't actually that different. He just had a different goal, or something like that, and he seemed amazingly concerned not just for their bodily survival, but actually for them.
As much as the world ending really fucking sucked… it actually wasn't so bad.
Comment limits are stupid lol. Someone less fail should write something =P.

Honestly, I couldn't think up an appearance for him, so I just didn't really talk about him lol. I thought maybe like those twins from the Matrix when they're passing through stuff, but then I thought maybe that was too many glowing people. My only other idea was to make him purple like Sylvanas ("the Banshee Queen," from World of Warcraft), since the idea for Charles was also from WoW (Algalon, if you want to look it up).
ADDITION TO ABOVE 'CAUSE YEAH SEAN DESERVES TO BE PURPLE

Insert somewhere up there... comments above made me realize purple!elf!Sean would be awesome lol
The first week kind of sucked. Charles was off quietly going crazy, and Alex didn't think he's seen Erik sleep all. (Actually, he still hadn't seen him sleep very much. Erik would just kind of go outside and melt into the metal wall for a few minutes, and come back refreshed. Fucking creepy.)
Plus, stupid Sean couldn't stop moaning about being purple and having pointy ears and stupid floaty wings. Alex really doesn't see what he has to complain about, the red eyes are fucking badass and at least he isn't glowing pink. (He can admit it's pink in his own head, because he knows Charles wouldn't tease him, but he will continue to stubbornly insist it's light fucking red, okay guys? out loud.)

However, I can't help but wonder about Banshee/Sean. Where is he?

Maybe built in wings could be part of it? So he doesn't always have to use the uniform. Ah, don't mind me. Heehee, I'm silly.
