Charles has a visible mutation. His appearance changed when he was, really young (pre-Raven, and he's not totally in control of his telepathy-or maybe his appearance and telepathy manifested at the same time?-but old enough to be aware of the world/other people's reactions). His nanny/tutor/whoever freaked out at him and so his telepathy subconsciously protected him by changing his appearance to 'normal' (in the eyes of everyone -and- himself). Consequently, he never actually saw himself in his 'real' form, and quickly forgot about the incident. Fast forward to the events of the movie, something causes his actual appearance to show up. Maybe Cerebro overtaxes his telepathy and so the subconscious illusion can't be maintained. Maybe Erik sees it once he has the helmet on at the beach. Whatever. Just want some obvious visible mutation!Charles and reactions to that.
Bonuses:
- Happy ending (To clarify, that means Charles and Erik are together somehow, someway. Whether Charles is paralyzed or not, other characters are dead or not, how they deal with their positions on mutant-human relations, etc is up to the filler)
- Heart to heart with Raven
- Reactions from the other kids and Erik
- Some fallout from his telepathy subconsciously protecting him resulting in an apparent increase in power once it no longer is, and Charles having to deal with not being in total control of his telepathy
- Also, as much as I really like the visible mutation!Charles from that story Apocalypse: Charles' Choice, I wouldn't mind seeing some other ideas of what he could look like ;).

"What? What is it? Have I something on my face?" He looks down and freezes. "Bloody Hell!" He hears the tinking sound of gem on metal as he falls, but everything's suddenly dark, and he knows no more.

"Charles? Charles please, wake up! It's okay, it's really okay! Wake up!" Raven was talking to him... She sounded - worried? He opened his eyes, pinpointing her location and looking at her. She was in her blue form, which meant that she couldn't focus on her Other form. Something was wrong.
"Nothing's wrong, Charles," Erik said from somewhere to his left. had he spoken aloud? "No, you're not speaking aloud. Although, if you could tone down the volume of your mental voice please? I'd rather the CIA not come rushing in here thinking something's wrong."
Oh. He concentrated, and something inside him shifted, just a little. "Is that better?"
"Much, thank you. Now, you'll need to sit up, carefully." Looking around, he could see that they were still in the Installation, and he sat up slowly, freezing at the soft screeching of stone on metal. Raven put a hand on his back and urged him up the rest of the way. Once up, he looked down at himself and nearly fell over again. His arms and hands were some sort of black gem shot through with something that reminded him of emerald, in little dots and splashes under the surface.
"What in the... Oh, bloody hell..." Lifting his fingers, he touched his own face in an attempt to figure out what his face looked like. As if she knew what he wanted, Raven shifted immediately to his copy. The momentary shock faded and he really took in the difference between his 'human' self and this other form. He recognized the gem as some sort of obsidian, only the green was much too true to be a real gem.
Hank was off to the side, writing furiously on a clipboard, and Charles plucked out a few words of terminology that he hadn't known before. "Snowflake? Really?"
"It appears so. But there's no such thing as green snowflake obsidian. The inclusions are always white..."
"Well, can we do some tests, find out if this is brand new?" Even as he spoke, a very vague memory of Nanny shrieking and running away from him floated by, nearly ignored. The accompanying shrieks of 'Monster' however, caught his attention. Like a parent prodding a shy child, he pushed his telepathy aside, pulling the memory up. It was only once, back before he even really understood that he was different, but there was no memory of black-and-green or gems to be found.
"I'm sure there are..." Hank started uncertainly, and Charles knew he was about to ask him to hide himself so that they could head to the lab.
"I don't know how," he said out loud. "I'm not sure if I was ever the one doing the hiding, if it's not new." He looked down at himself again, marveling at the play of light over the obsidian, almost sparking over the emerald. "At least I'm not naked... That would be mortifying." Raven shifted to her natural form with a raised eyebrow, and he made a face at her. "I don't have strategically placed scales, darling."
"Well I think you look brilliant," Erik said quietly, and Charles couldn't help his shy smile.

I almost squealed when I saw this fill, which would have been awkward because I was in a really public place at the time. Amazing start, AMAZING idea for Charles' appearance, that sounds gorgeous.

I am flailing, love the idea of a physical mutation that he can't turn off (unlike Emma frost). Looking forward to more!

"Well this is strange. I'm wondering why it won't allow it now, when it did before..."
"Maybe it didn't," Erik said quietly. "If your telepathy was hiding your physical form from yourself, what's to say it hasn't been fooling everyone else, doctors included, into thinking things happened when they didn't?" Charles felt a little perturbed at that, since he'd never been a big fan of controlling people unless it was important. "I know how you feel, Charles," Erik said, as if Charles had projected that thought into his mind (and for all he knew, he had), "but that doesn't change the fact that it probably happened. How is your telepathy doing now?"
"It's... bigger. Less refined than it was; controlling how so many people saw me, including myself, must have used up a good portion of my available resources. I'll need to isolate myself, at least for a few days, to get it back into some semblance of control. I could kill someone without meaning to right now, and that's not a pretty thought at all." The almost admiring look on Erik's face made him squirm inwardly, remembering that Erik was only there to help them find Shaw, even if he had other reasons now that he'd stayed.
"Well, we'll have to work on your control then, won't we?" Erik said lightly, and Charles's heart lifted at the word 'we', making him feel rather like a teenage girl, which made him feel distinctly uncomfortable. He liked to think of himself as an enlightened individual (especially with his power giving him access to all walks of life), but thinking about how right it felt that Erik was counting himself as a part of a greater whole, and the pride that went along with it, made a feeling of guilt from a dark corner of his mind flare up.
"Yes, well. I think it's safe to assume you won't be getting any samples from me," he said lightly, shaking off the negative feelings. "So let's just assume that it's always been this way and move on." He looked at Raven consideringly. "You and I have to talk soon, darling," he said quietly, finally realizing how his little sister felt for all those years.
"We do, don't we?" Thankfully, she didn't look accusatory. It was a start.
