I leave for college in about a week and a half, so people have been (and still are) vying for my attention. But fear not my readers! I will try to update every 2 days. By the way the late night/early morning tends to make my brain come up with rather strange descriptions, as you will see…
o.2
With half the day gone fretting over the status of their shoot, the group decided that it was in fact in their best interests to remain in their little clearing, as a four hour drive back to civilization appealed to no one, particularly one swaddled in darkness. Raven was the most disappointed. Gazing forlornly at the brooding jungle creeping ever closer beneath the night’s thick curtain, she reluctantly set up her bed roll.
When she’d inquired as to why the trailer wasn’t in use, everyone-excluding Erik-turned to the nervous looking intern. He smiled sheepishly, wringing his hands together, desperate to escape the spotlight. “Well, you see,” he began, “our budget was rather small to begin with, and to save some money, we borrowed a trailer from one of Moira’s friends, and well…”
“It’s full of the previous owner’s crap,” Alex exclaimed. He’d grown exceedingly tired of the other’s long winded explanations.
“What about tents?” she asked quickly.
This time they turned to another boy. He grinned sheepishly, red hair glinting in the dying sun.
“It was a mistake! Bolivia! Brazil! Anyone else would have gotten them mixed up!”
Charles laughed and Raven groaned, “So we’ll be sleeping outside until either the trailer is hospitable or the tents magically appear?”
“Pretty much.”
It took Charles’ steady hand to keep her from ripping apart her sleeping bag.
Once their sleeping arrangements were set and the fire stoked, Raven declared-rather impatiently-that introductions were in order. The majority of the group agreed and moved to get comfortable around the fire. Erik, much to Charles’ disappointment, was the exception. In fact after introducing himself to Charles and Moira, he’d sidled off to the outskirts of their clearing, to fix himself a camp of his own.
“So,” Raven began, “who wants to start?”
The tall, lanky ginger grinned, stretching out his legs, “Name’s Sean Cassidy. You’re one and only boom operator. But since the other guys split, guess that makes me production sound mixer!”
Alex scowled, mumbling something about a previous film and koalas, promptly earning him a pillow in the face from another intern and a withering look from Moira. But Charles had caught sight of a twinkle in Alex’s eyes, too good-natured to be any trick of the firelight, something Sean seemed to notice as well as he playfully punched him on the shoulder.
“Your turn, man” he cried, catching him on the other side.
Batting Sean away, Alex hunched forward to poke at the coals, “Alex Summers. Been working with MacTaggert and her people for a few months now. I dabble a bit in each field, but mostly I do all the hard labor. Just a handy man I guess.”
Charles watched him closely for a moment, before offering the boy a hand, “It’s nice to meet you, Alex. I hope you’ll help us newcomers adjust.”
He gave a slight smile and returned the hand, then cringed slightly as Sean tackled him with a hug.
“Lighten up man! We’re in Bolivia-”
“Brazil,” Moira corrected pointedly.
Sean just waved her off, “Just think about, man,” he slung an arm over Alex’s shoulder, his other hand gesturing dramatically in front of them, “tomorrow when we get back to the hotel, there’ll be blue skies, white sand, and beach babes who need help with their sunscreen!
They’ll be like, ‘Oh! Sean I can’t seem to reach my back. Do you think you can?’
And I’ll sidle up, all man-like and say, ‘Yeah, baby. I could do that. But you’ve got to do something for me.’
She’ll giggle all girl like and be like, ‘Oh ye-”
“SEAN!” Moira cried, “We’re here to work, not flirt.”
The others laughed as Sean shrugged indifferently, “I don’t see why we can’t do both.”
Moira just sighed, shaking her head and muttering something about boys and their hormones. When she caught Charles’ amused eye, she smiled apologetically. ‘Never you,’ she mouthed, before settling back down on her sleeping bag and motioning for the introductions to continue.

They talked long into the night, as teenagers often did, and Charles was reminded how dearly he missed the quiet murmur of youthful conversation-though it’s wasn’t without its occasionally spikes in volume. With what could most definitely be truck loads of bills and seemingly endless conversations with men, who while ranked some of the brightest minds in the nation, were rather dull when it came to the basic routines of life, it didn’t surprise Charles all too much to find himself reclining by the fire, listening to Alex, Sean and Armando (their self-appointed translator, if the need should arise) compare music styles, Moira filling Angel (their newest intern) in on the latest celebrity gossip, and Raven and Hank whispering quietly at the edge of the fire pit.
Wait, what?
Charles scrambled to his elbows and watched the pair with interest. His sister-his giant firecracker of a sister-was leaning close to the obviously nervous boy, laughing at something he said. The corners of his mouth twitched. It was nice seeing Raven with more acceptable boys. Hank McCoy, from what he gleaned from earlier (a rather shyly succinct introduction, consisting of his name, where he was from, and what his role was-their scripter and biologist, if Charles remembered correctly) was a nice boy. And being just a boy, Charles knew he’d be a much better companion for his baby sister than her last ‘boy’friend (he was much too old for the title really), Azazel.
Eventually the children-as Charles had taken to fondly refer to them in his head-one by one, began to nod off, until it was just Moira and he awake by the sleepy fire. Soon she too succumbed to sleep, clearly exhausted by the day’s stress. She bid him a rather incoherent farewell and all but collapsed onto her bed roll. Charles chuckled, overcome with a strange sense of déjà vu as he helped her into it.
Deciding that it was in his best interest to at least attempt sleep, Charles retired to his own bed roll, staring blankly at the menagerie of cosmic delights above.
Nothing came, unfortunately.
He sighed, rolling onto his side, hoping that the sight of the looming tangle of darkness, that was the jungle, would help the Sandman along. He stared at it for awhile, concentrating on the obscure foliage patterns; thinking that trying to right these crazy snags and snarls would tire out his brain enough to allow him to sleep. But alas, his attention span got the best of him and forced his mind elsewhere.
After lingering awhile on the differences between marmalade, jam and jelly, his thoughts focused on his enigmatic cameraman. He frowned. The man had evidently decided that joining the rest of the team was unnecessary and settled the farthest away possible.

Charles sat up slowly, squinting through the darkness in Erik’s direction. A flicker of light and thin trail of smoke caught his eye. Easing himself ever so quietly from his sleeping bag, he crept towards the sight.
“Have a seat,” Erik said, flicking a few flakes of ash from his cigarette into the air.
Charles stepped back, startled.
Erik waited a moment; eyes trained toward the jungle, before answering the hanging question, “I know the sounds of the night. You’re steps are loud. Open.”
Charles frowned, puzzled, “I suppose I understand what you mean. And should you really be smoking here?”
“I’m careful enough. It risks about as much as any campfire.”
They fell silent, gazing softly out into the landscape. Charles tried not to dwell too much on the flickering silhouettes in the dark. “The moon is nice tonight,” he remarked quietly.
Erik let out a plume of smoke, before gently craning his head to the sky, “It is.”
Charles sighed and gathered up the courage to sit down next to him. It wasn’t as graceful as he’d liked it to have been, a clutter of limps and odd angles, something he’d expect of his teenage-self, not a man nearing thirty. He’d uttered a small cry of surprise and looked up just in time to glimpse a sliver of teeth and a jaw, strong and proud. It was oddly predatorial.
In fact, everything about Erik Lehnsherr seemed to scream predator; from his sharp, electric eyes to his wardrobe. He was wearing, much to Charles’ bewilderment, a dark turtleneck and khakis. Why he was dressed like a seaman in the Amazon was lost to Charles, but before he could dwell anymore on image of Erik at sea-probably very much at home-he sensed the bigger man’s gaze on him. He was smiling again, but with just his lips this time.
“Y-yes?” Charles choked out, from surprise and something else his quickly tiring mind couldn’t discern fast enough.
“You look tired, you should get some sleep.”
Suddenly the world seemed to swerve slightly, and the heavy weight of impending sleep pushed impatiently at Charles’ shoulders. He nodded sluggishly and tried to make his way back to his sleeping bag. Try he did, but to his embarrassment, his first couple of steps sent him gangling to the ground. A pair of strong leathery hands pulled him to his feet, and then led him to a small fire.
Drowsily, Charles wondered when Alex’s fire had grown so small, but the will of the Sandman was far strong for logic in the dead of night, so he curled into the soft pile of blankets he’d suddenly found underneath him, the earthy scent of tobacco drowning any lingering senses.
That night he dreamt of the ocean, of an endless blue stage and a dance of sharks, with eyes as daunting as the chasms below.
God! That took me forever to write! I literally sat at the computer for hours, laboring over this one part. Then I decided to scrap the idea altogether and everything else just spilled from my fingers. I tried to look over this one myself, because I didn’t want you guys to wait. Hope you like it. :3 (Hahaha, my descriptions make me laugh XD).
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]shaishdaAugust 8 2011, 10:35:24 UTC
Yay an update! I'm really enjoying the vibe on this one, and I really get that sense of..camping out outdoors. And I'm enjoying your Erik, muchly. I didn't find your descriptions weird, though.
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]igleanAugust 8 2011, 20:36:15 UTC
Thanks so much!! Haha you don't know how happy it makes me to hear that you like my Erik. I'm never really sure how mysterious I should make him. And I'm glad you're getting a feel or the outdoors! Camping was a big part of my childhood and I'm happy I seem to be doing it justice :)
It's really only the "menagerie of cosmic delights" that's makes me laugh. It reminds me of rainbow-colored Turkish delights , hahaha. I guess I was just craving some sweets.
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]shaishdaAugust 8 2011, 23:13:24 UTC
You're very welcome! And ooh I think you're balancing it well. I mean..he comes off kind of intimidating and, yes, mysterious, but with the added fact that he's pretty calm and helped Charles back to his sleeping spot balances out the intimidating factor. It's good! (:
Ooh. LOL I guess that makes sense. I did like the visual though, it was easy to picture the stars and maybe the galaxy-like swirls of colors in the sky. Very pretty.
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]yellow_pomeloAugust 8 2011, 23:15:37 UTC
There's nothing like writing something up at an ungodly hour, but I've got to say you're still very coherent and I don't think there's a problem, so no worries. (The "leathery hands" make me chuckle, thinking about alligator skin or something, but I like it!)
I like how you're developing things so far, and LOL Sean; it's fitting that he's the boom operator (production sound mixer XD), and Darwin really works as the translator. And hehehe, I feel really silly for being so amused, but the thought of Erik tucking Charles into bed -- ♥
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]igleanAugust 8 2011, 23:40:56 UTC
Oh good, I'm glad you're enjoying Sean. Haha, when I got into bed I was like, "OH GOD! I'M MAKING SEAN TO IMMATURE!" Don't worry he'll bust out some survival moves in the future. :)
And I was wondering, how are you on secondary pairings?
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]igleanAugust 10 2011, 03:35:36 UTC
GAH. an update?! c: oh my goodness thank you! I need some more survival man!Erik and softly delicate in comparison!Charles in this fandom! I bet Erik is like, "what a beautiful creature with his baby blue eyes and pale skin that reddens so easily! I take interest in this ravishing English posh man!" oh man, it's just this PLOT. it's amazing. I can see Charles getting into all sorts of troubles like stepping on a snake or a dangerous colored insect falling on his beautiful brown locks and Erik, being the rugged wild prince he is, being very experienced and all, "don't make any sudden movements, one bite can send you to high heavens instead of my arms, so remain calm."
This is probably my most favorite AU right now. I love you writer, heart confetti for you! *strokes this story*
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]igleanAugust 10 2011, 08:25:13 UTC
I'm speechless. Really, you've given me a whole bunch of confidence. I've always been nervous about my writing (I have a terrible habit of comparing it to others. ALL my English teachers have tried to cure me of this. One if particular sat me down was like, "FORGET EVERYONE ELSE AND JUST GET YOUR PAPER DONE!" haha, he was amazing). This is one of the best comments ever. My best friend and I each cried one sharky tear of indescribable emotion. Haha I got all excited and ran to my dad and shoved it in his face. He raised a brow (that's a good response), and was like, "Hmm...just don't stay up late when you go crazy."
Re: Fill: Amazonia [2c/?]igleanAugust 11 2011, 06:52:41 UTC
I'm gonna rec your fic on tumblr! The world must know! And awwww your daddy! c: so happy to give you encouragement like that! I'll rain it down upon you each time if it gives us such a cute reaction lol! BUT SRSLY. whatever you and your best friend are doing DON'T STOP. this is such an amazing piece and I'd like to see it till the end! I hope you two don't drop it! Jesus like seriously, all my tracked WIPs are dropped. LOVE YOU. LOVE YOUR BEST FRIEND AND DADDY (creepy as that is wow). Your english teacher is right! Your descriptions aren't strange! They're wonderful and different!

It was oddly predatorial.
Goddamn, I think I have just seen the light. WildernessMan!Erik is just so hot. Charles never stood a chance! I really like how you wrote the other characters in as well. Moira, Raven, Sean, Hank, Alex!
I know this is an anon kink meme (and I'm being contrary and using my login, of course), but where are your 1 million comments? This is brilliance! I can't wait for the next chapters!
