Plus, now, he could get closer and actually listen to that rich voice. He wasn't surprised to hear they were talking about Batman, everyone did once in a while trying to solve the Gotham's greatest mystery.
"So, Charles, any new stories about your beloved saviour?" asked Jean Grey, Emma's workmate in Arkham Asylum. She and her district attorney boyfriend Scott Dent seemed to be really made for each other. If to believe the gossip she has been sleeping with one of the guards in Arkham - James Howlett to be exact and he was never home, working or spending valuable time in Gotham's whorehouse. But, much like every single person in this town - they loved Charles.
"Well, actually yes. I've been just coming back from work and then a very kind looking gentleman asked me for a lighter... Really, people these days. Smoking and drinking, guarding streets at night, ruining their lives, but anyway, when I told him I did not have one he turned furious. Then he dragged me into one of those dark alleys that make Gotham such a special place on Earth - dangerous, but beautiful. In that alley there were more of them - thugs I mean, and I even think one might have had a knife, but before they could do anything he appeared out of nowhere..." Erik knew that was not exactly true. At least not for him. The first thing that he did after changing into the Batsuit was checking if Charles was in the safety of his home.If he wasn't Erik always waited for him to get home from his laboratory, following his every step n the shadows. "Before I could even react they were running away and he was standing right before me, gaze controlled, checking if I was hurt and then he stepped even closer and..." Lehnsherr had to stop this. He remembered that moment too well, Charles' uneven breath, recalling Alex' story about the time he had stolen the Batmobile, saved the girl who asked him if Batman didn't always kissed the ones who he's helped, those damn, obscenely red lips, the want clouding his mind just for a moment...
"Charles, isn't it a little bit too much? I'm sure you don't want to deceive us into thinking that you've developed some kind of obsession about that guy, now do you?" Charles' look clearly was meant to be dreadful but instead appeared to be just slightly upset.

Second of all - being a Batman geek I messed up every Batman universe into one. So, let me tell you who's gonna be who in this story.
Erik Lehnsherr = Bruce Wayne (obvsly)
Charles Xavier = a little bit de-aged Leslie Thompkins
Alex Summers = Dick Greyson (sorry, he's not Robin anymore, he's Nightwing for me)
Sean Cassidy = Jason Todd
Scott Summers (Dent in story 'cause I couldn't use the same surname 2 times) = Harvey Dent
Armando Muñoz = Lucius Fox
Moira MacTaggert = Jim Gordon
Raven Darkholme = Batgirl
Sebastian Shaw = Joker
Emma Frost = somekind of collision between Schumacher's Chase Meridian and Harleen Quinzel
