A/N: Sadly, there is no Edie in this part, but she'll pop up in the next part, I promise.

"Charles, I swear to God that if you dress that dog up for Halloween I will leave you."

"No you won't," Charles countered with that grin that still did things to Erik's stomach almost four years in. "You'll just sit in the bedroom and sulk while Finnegan and I give out candy."

"Are you at least going to dress him up as something manly? I know he's little and fluffy, but if you're going to dress the poor guy up it might as well be something for a boy dog."

"That depends on your definition of 'manly' but I personally think Captain Kirk qualifies."

"I can live with Captain Kirk. Are you going to be Spock?"

"You know me so well. Oh, hang on, someone's ringing me." Charles fished his phone out of his pocket.

Erik shifted his attention to poor Finnegan, who had no idea what horrible fate awaited him. Charles had told Erik early on in their relationship that he'd always wanted a miniature schnauzer, and judging by the way that he reacted when he'd been presented with Finnegan, he hadn't been lying. That dog was Charles's baby and an extremely spoiled one at that. The way Charles fawned all over him was adorable, but putting him in a Halloween costume was just cruel. Erik consoled himself that at least Charles didn't dress Finn up every day.

"You want to what?" Charles practically shrieked into his phone. "But you haven't even been together a year yet!... Well, I'm very glad that you love her, Hank, but have you even discussed this with her yet?... You have?... Oh... Well, yeah, okay. I mean I guess as you're not just springing marriage talk on her... Yes, then. Yes, you can have my blessing... All right... Bye, Hank."

Charles hung up his phone and turned back to Erik, "Hank wants to ask Raven to marry him."

Erik snorted, "Aren't they a little young?"

"They're not all that much younger than I was when I moved in with you."

"Yes, but I'm older and not a ridiculous optimist. Your sister, as much as I love her, has hardly ever lived outside of a dorm and Hank is just... Hank."

"Hank has a job and he's working on paying off his student loans. And Raven can handle herself. You know she can."

"She still has two years of undergrad and three years of law school left, though."

"She could graduate with he bachelor's degree next year if she takes summer classes. Don't worry, Erik, I'm going to encourage them to have a long engagement."

"I just... they've only been together for nine months!"

Charles shrugged, "Nine months is long enough to figure out who you want to be with for the rest of your life. I suppose I should offer him my mother's ring. I doubt I'll be needing it."

"You better not be needing it." Erik shook his fist mock-threateningly. Charles threw his head back and laughed.

"Aww, how cute!" Erik could hear the single mothers cooing over Finnegan from the living room.

"My sister showed me this and I just couldn't resist," Charles was saying, "I don't normally dress him up, but well... Anyway, what a groovy go-go girl we've got here. I dig the shoes."

"Thanks!" the little girl giggled. No woman of any age was immune to Charles's charm, it seemed.

It would be cute if Erik hadn't heard this exchange about eight times already. He knew that Charles was good-looking, flirtatious and pretty much irresistible. He didn't need every single mom within a twenty mile radius coming by to remind him.

"Trick-or-treat!" Erik knew that voice.

"Raven!" Charles exclaimed delightedly, "Did you really drive all the way out here just to get candy?"

"Well, Hank offered to come out and go to a few Halloween parties with me, but since he has work tomorrow I thought it'd be more fun to go trick-or-treating. You wanna come with?"

"Oh, I wouldn't want to intrude. Besides, that would leave Erik to give out the candy and he's a spoilsport who doesn't dress up."

Erik popped his head out into the hall and had to bite back a laugh at their costumes. "Beauty and the Beast? Really?"

"Shut up, it's my favorite Disney film," Raven snapped.

Hank rolled his eyes behind her back. "I wanted to be Sherlock Holmes."

"You have to make sacrifices for love sometimes, I think you'll find," Charles said sagely. He shot Erik a brief look full of affection.

"Well, we'd better be going," Raven announced, snatching a handful of candy from the bowl and kissing her brother on the cheek.

Once she was out of the door, Charles discretely slipped Hank a ring box and winked. "Have fun, you two."

Erik walked back to the living room shaking his head. Why did people feel the need to ruin their lives by getting married? He knew Charles's mother and stepfather had never been happy. Erik's parents had hated each other, and his own stepfather had been unbearable. Shaw had been fine until he'd actually married Edie, or at least that was how Erik remembered it. If Raven and Hank were happy as they were, why would they bother with rings and formalities?

"Trick-or-treat!"

Erik groaned. This was going to be a long night.

FAST UPDATE, YES.

It's like Erik and Charles are living the perfect gay couple dream, I swear to goodness. (Miniature schnauzer! DRESSED AS JAMES T KIRK) LOVE IT.

I also love how you threw in Hank and Raven's engagement as an additional nudge at Erik, and the Beauty and the Beast costumes were PERFECT.

Erik better hope there's a family ring on his side to present to Charles. Loving the fact that you're putting dates in, BTW!

*Waits for more!*
