Shaw’s handsome face twisted into ire, sending a scathing look towards the guards protecting the entrance. The messenger, a pink skinned humanoid with bright feathers for hair, panted as he stumbled into the room. The large crowd clad in fancy and opulent outfits parted for him, eyeing the intruder with curiosity and disgust.
“And pray tell who was found?” Shaw’s general, a red skinned devil of a man, asked.
“The mother. The prophecy. They’ve located him.” The messenger stumbled, falling to his knees before the dais leading to the Emperor’s throne.
Shaw’s eye’s flashed as a smile broke across his face. His White Queen shoots him a look of desperation, her hand falling on Emperor Shaw’s arm before he shrugged it off.
“Are you certain.”
The messenger’s head almost looked like it would fall off he nodded so fast. “An Omega class telepath, in Westchester, New York. A human sympathizer from what we could tell.”
Shaw broke out laughing, his cackling echoing across the lavish hall. “Call Magneto from the front lines, he’ll want to know we finally found his bride.”
****
“Idiot!”
“Ouch! Raven stop it, I’ve already been incapacitated, no reason to make it worse.”
Raven glared back at him, a look of murder on her face but she pulled her fingers back, she had been pinching him rather sharply on his wrist. “What kind of mutant trips over a cat? I got called out of class and told you were in the hospital, and the whole way here I kept thinking the worst. Only to find out you had twisted your ankle tripping over the dang cat.”
Charles tried not to blush but felt he rather failed at that endeavor. “Yes, well, it was your cat.”
“Don’t try to blame Micky. You weren’t paying attention, your head is so caught up in clouds lately, it’s a wonder you ever float on down to land on earth.”
Charles ran the hand not currently taped down to an IV through his sister’s bright red hair. She was always worried for him, and the panic and desperation he felt coming off her when she burst into the room had almost thrown him from the bed. She had hardly settled down since she found out it had only been a minor injury.
“I’m sorry. I gave Puet a scare also. You wouldn’t imagine the thoughts he had when he saw me lying down in dirt outside the door. He’d thought some anti-mutant extremist had taken me out right there in the front yard. Called the whole household into military defense formation- Esperanza was wielding a frying pan.” Raven smiled up at him hesitantly. “I’m pretty sure I can still feel them laughing about it from here.”
Raven wiped at her face, her eyes suspiciously dry. “You’re such a dummy. Just be careful from now on. Your body is so human.” Charles wanted to scold her for how she meant that, like being anything close to human was derogatory, but he was tired from the pain medication and the loud bustling in the hospital hallways was strangely distracting.
Both young adults turned towards the door as Charles’s Doctor swooped in, looking everywhere but at the two young adults in the room as she flipped through the medical chart. Charles was almost too busy trying to get a read off of her to watch as two armed guards took up position outside his hospital door. Raven shot him a nervous look before turning to the doctor.
“Is there something wrong? Another attack?” She asked, her hand squeezing his.
Dr. H, as she liked to be called, clucked her tongue. “No, nothing the sort. Just a precaution, we have a important guest staying in this wing and the extra security was asked for.”
Oh, Charles thought, she’s lying. While it was sometimes rude to ask another mutant what their power was, it was common for Doctor’s to ask in case it somehow co-related to the injury. It had seemed silly at the time but now Charles found himself almost overwhelmingly glad he hadn’t mentioned it when he was checked it.
The two guards were wearing the special helmets but the Doctor was an open book.

Rubbing his temples, Charles tried to reach out. The rooms around him had become empty, patients moved to the other wing, but the hallway was filled with nurses, doctors, medical board members all walking by for a chance to see the… what?
Charles surged up, fingers at his temples as he froze the Doctor in time. Raven, startled, jumped out of her chair. “Charles! What’s wrong?”
“No time to talk, grab that wheelchair for me and morph into the Doctor. We need to get out of here as fast as possible.”
“What?” Bewildered, she still did as he asked.
Raven helped him hobble into the wheelchair, morphing into the doctor as Charles pulled the sheet from the bed over his head. “You look like the virgin Mary,” She snorted at him. “Are you going to tell me why we are currently shanghaiing our way out of the hospital? Or is this another dine-and-dash situation?”
“Just get us pass the guards and I’ll tell you. Just pretend I’m another patient. The guards are after me in particular.”
Shrugging into character, Raven wheeled him past the guards, they looked like they were about to follow until Raven shook her head, “Just the other patient sharing the room. Mr. Xavier is now alone in there, just like you asked, he’s fallen asleep and his sister asked that he have some privacy for a few hours.”
One guard eyed Charles suspiciously.
He coughed to try to make it more convincing, but with the helmets on he couldn’t tell if it worked or not. The other guard gave a curt nod, shutting the door to Charles’s recovery room behind them. Not even looking into the room to check their story
Wheeling through the commotion that seemed to have overtaken the small community hospital was a bit daunting, an intern tried to sidle up to Raven and ask her a medical question but she had just barked at him to leave her alone before he scampered off. Board member is wrinkled suits eyeballed Raven like they wanted to pull her into a room alone with them. One nurse, a perky blond girl with opal eyes, took up position walking Raven and Charles to the elevator, ignoring Charles she started asking simpering questions about ‘What was he like’ and ‘I hear he so beautiful he puts women to shame.’ Raven shut the elevator door in that one’s face without answering.
“Really Charles, when did a nerd like you become so popular?” Raven gave him a baleful look.
Peaking up from the blankets around his head Charles replied, “I fear there has been some over exaggeration in the last few minutes about myself. When I checked in that lass sneered at my sweater vest.”
It wasn’t until they were on the ground level that Raven pinched his arm, “So you going to tell me what just happened up there?”
“I think I’m in trouble.”
Raven sighed, “Charles…”
“I didn’t do anything,” Charles began. “All I know is that a General is heading here and the hospital is under orders to detain me.”
“Have you been preaching human sympathy again to your students? You know the government is only not getting involved because you’re the best teacher this side of the Boarder and some of your favorite students are in places of high command.”
What went unsaid was that the Xavier name was already tarnished in the Empire’s eye. His father’s refusal to kill his human wife once she fled with her equally human lover across the Border got him called to court, there Sir Xavier had scolded the Emperor himself to keep his nose out of his family’s affairs. Reprimanded, the Xavier’s were asked never to return to court until the Emperor found fit to forgive them. When Charles’s mother’s body had been sent to them for burial all faith in the Empire had been lost to the Xavier family.
Even now, with his father long dead, Charles tended to walk the line where the government was concerned. Teaching his students peace where the government would want him to teach them hate.

Raven snorted, pushing his head down so the people in the waiting room wouldn’t see his face. “Yeah, poor innocent Charles, who couldn’t harm a fly. Why would the government be after you, why I don’t know, maybe because he’s a human sympathizer and one of the most powerful telepaths ever born, oh wait. The Empire doesn’t know that!” She said sarcastically.
“Well no reason to be rude about it.” Charles huffed.
The buzz around the hospital picked up, almost to the door Raven quickly twirled his chair around, “Not that way then!” Raven looked towards the back exit, where a large military vehicle was unloading soldiers. The soldiers posted at the front exit already in formation blocking people from leaving.
Charles listened to the minds around him, filtering out the patients and listening to the orderlies. There was a lot of grumbling and excitement, “Head to the cafeteria, there’s a side door out the kitchens.”
“This seems a bit extreme for one telepath.” Raven said.
Charles nodded but he continued to listen in on the orderlies minds, he didn’t want their exit to be compromised.
The alarm went up, scaring the patients into full blown terror. Charles clenched his teeth as he tried to block their panicked minds. A headache was already growing at the back of his head, throbbing in time with the wails of the sirens. It seemed Doctor H had been discovered.
“My dear, we’ve been found. Time to change.” Raven morphed into an intern who ran past. Charles concentrated on projecting the image of a pregnant woman, knowing the soldiers would still see him as he was but the doctors and patients around them would see what he wanted. The miscommunication might help.
Walking strait into the empty cafeteria, Raven left Charles alone for a moment to check in the window to see if things were clear in the alley outside. Nodding she walked back and knelt in front of Charles. “Whatever you have done, as my brother, I will not allow them to take you.”
Charles placed a kiss on her knuckle. “You worry too much.” Smiling softly he dropped his illusion; he would need all the power he could to get away once they were outside.
The sudden presence of another in the room startled both siblings. The smell of cinnamon and the red smoke meant it could only be a teleporter.
Both brother and sister stared at the red devilish man before them. For a minute no one moved. Then the man lunged at Raven.
Raven blocked the swing of a blade with the metal tongs from the salad bar. Morphing seamlessly into her natural blue form as she kicked out, the blade sliding between the handles before Raven clamped down, twisting the tongs as the blade fell to floor.
The teleporter phased away, suddenly he was on Charles’s other side, reaching for his arm before Raven threw a bucket of forks at him, following that with a roundhouse kick over Charles’s head. Raven’s kick landed, the red man phasing away before he hit the ground. He suddenly appeared beside Raven throwing a punch at her that she blocked, she slapped him with the tongs across the temple.
Raven gave Charles’s wheelchair a kick, sending him rolling into the kitchen, Charles barely had time to stop before he crashed into a pile of buckets.
He could hear Raven and the Teleporter still fighting, a grunt of pain and the sound of metal striking metal.

‘Run! There is more than one General!’ She shouted back at him.
Grabbing the wheels, he tried to make it to the door. If he escaped now he could always come back to get Raven, but fighting two Generals singlehanded would be taxing- even for him. His fingers just brushing against the handle before he was yanked back. His whole chair rolling back on its own as his escape quickly faded away. Grunting he was thrown back into the chair, the blanket getting tangled up around his legs.
He was pulled backwards out the swinging doors of the kitchen and back into the cafeteria.
The scene before him had him worried for Raven. Soldiers lined the walls, the Red man -a general from what he could gleam from Raven- and another man in a scarlet outfit and helmet, held her prisoner. Raven was spread eagle against the opposite wall, metal around her limbs and neck holding her immobile. The teleporter, was panting, using the sleeve of his black uniform to whip away the blood from his brow.
“Really Azazel, you let this little female get the best of you.” The General with the helmet asked, ignore Charles completely as he came to a stop beside him.
“I was trying not to injure her. She made it quiet hard to be nice about it,” Azazel said, spitting.
Raven growled, trying to wiggle out of her confines. The man in the helmet raised his hand, his finger spread as Raven gave a chocked cry.
The metal around her neck tightening and making her face turn purple.
“Stop it,” Charles cried. “You’re hurting her!”
It was a tense standoff, the tears in Raven’s eye’s spurring Charles into action.
Azazel sword came up, slashing at the man in the helmet. The general stumbled back, releasing Raven enough she could breathe. Azazel twirled, slashing at the other man until the helmeted man raised his arm and the red teleporter was sent flying into the ceiling.
All during this Charles’s was stumbling up onto his feet to reach his sister, the blanket twisting around him. His sore ankle, a screaming agony, he would ignore as long as Raven was okay. He yanked at metal holding Raven’s left wrist to the wall, he vaguely noted it was the tongs she’d used to fight Azazel, twisted into crude cuffs to hold her still.
“Enough!”
The metal tongs came off, twisting in Charles’s hand and twirling around his wrist, they snapped to the floor, sending Charles to his knees. He cried out in pain as his ankle bent at a painful angle, collapsing to the floor in a heap of cloth.
“This is ridiculous. Calm yourself sisters, we mean you no harm.” The man in the helmet said towards Charles and Raven. “Azazel, pull yourself together.”
“Sorry Magneto, the telepath had control.”
“I know.” Magneto said, moving to stand over Charles. His towering crimson form casting a shadow over Charles where he lay buckled to the floor. Charles clutched the blanket around him, staring resolutely at the floor. “Be at peace, the Empire does not condone the government attacking our own kind.”
Raven growled, “Lies. Your dog there came after me with a blade.”
“I thought she was an agent trying to steal the mother.”
“We were just trying to leave before things got out of hand. You Empire dogs are always-”
“Quiet both of you.” Magneto cut off Raven. Her anger pulsed throughout the room, causing Charles to shiver. “Sister,” He said to Charles. “Is what she says true? Are you here against your will?”
Oh God, Charles thought absurdly, he thinks I’m a woman. In any other circumstance this wouldn’t be the first thing on Charles’s mind once being detained by the government. Two War Generals, here in Westchester, far from any battle ground and invading the high class neighborhood of suburbia in order to capture little Charles Xavier.
“Sister?” A hand gently tugged at the cloth covering his face, slowly pealing it away. Charles could feel the fingers brush against the curls around his ear, unable to he couldn’t hold back the gasp.
Suddenly Charles was staring up into piercing blue eyes.
It was like being sucked into a black hole. Charles could almost feel himself shaking apart, scattering into piece of himself.
The man known to everyone as Magneto was Erik Lehnsherr.
