Charles was born with Asperger syndrome. Raven, albeit younger than him, finds herself becoming the protective older sister to a small boy who gets bullied due to his difficulty negotiating friendships. Charles can remain withdrawn and timid from years of having people insult him both verbally and mentally, or become the charismatic figure he is in the film, using his telepathy to determine what people want from him then adapting to those wishes. It’s up to the filler, but I think it would be rather unique to see how Charles' natural optimism and belief in people could be cultivated after such a rough childhood.
The story can take place at any time during the film, but one of the scenes I imagined is someone (Erik, perhaps?) accidentally interrupting one of Charles’ many routines - basically something that triggers the negative side of his disorder and causes him to have a breakdown like he did as a child.
BONUS POINTS IF:
- Raven goes into complete protection mode despite whatever distance may be between them with her ever-changing feelings towards her appearance and Charles’ behavior;
- Somebody, maybe Erik, tries to make Charles realise just how brilliant he is despite his disability; and/or
- Charles confuses people by being completely attentive on one subject but is completely unable to focus at all on another. My boyfriend has this issue sometimes - if he doesn’t interest him, he literally cannot pay attention. (TRIPLE BONUS POINTS IF ERIK FINDS THIS ABSURDLY CUTE).
I will love you forever if you fill this.

Fortunately for me, though, I have been reared with a very solid foundation of acceptance and support at home, and some consider me "high functioning" because I have been carefully taught how to behave (even if I still do not entirely understand the Why to this day). My personal "obsessive focus" is patterns of behavior/psychology-- From an analytical and logical standpoint, everything makes sense. Even you lovely kinky bastards here on the kinkmeme. But from an irrational, emotional view, things are confusing and muddled and ridiculous. I am curious to see how a character like Charles could be written to behave with Asperger's.
Nonnies, make it so?
My one suggestion is for the author is to please write in/work from the knowledge that there are no definite rigid symptoms of AS. Though it is a disorder on the Autism Spectrum, the symptoms and manifest behaviors vary widely from one Aspie to the next. No one Aspie has the exact same triggers for anxiety or the same interests, and not all levels of comprehension are shared between people with Asperger's. It's a very... "tailored" disorder, if you will.
I'll shut up. o//o

Regarding what you said about the way Asperger's develops with no rigid symptoms - I know three great people who have AS and I completely agree that this fact should be included. My boyfriend has extraordinary muscle memory and adapts really well to social situations, but the Asperger's makes it impossible for him to concentrate on things that don't interest him and he has quite a high level of OCD as a result. His sister, however, finds it terrifying to be outside and in negotiating relationships with people but is absolutely brilliant with understanding complex subjects. His father is a bit of both, but avoids all conflict and sometimes finds it difficult to react normally.
Sorry for the long response, but if anything here helps the author, I'm happy to have included it. Part of why I posted the prompt was to see what people would come up with. Thanks for taking the time to check it out and providing such good responses. :)

You've seriously just rendered me speechless. This is absolutely fantastic, and exactly what I wanted to see when I posted this.
Erik was simply stunning to read. His characterisation was spot on, to the point where I could literally imagine this playing out on the screen. I adored the play on his observation skills and how they not only focused on Charles, but on the way he and Raven reacted to one another as well. The idea that he was fascinated by Charles' behaviour rather than being put off by it was beautiful, and the way you wove that into the story was really well done.
Raven's character was perfect, both in her concern for Charles and the way you suggested towards the finely tuned aspects of her personality. I especially enjpyed the way she shifted from her natural form to the mask she wears when being cornered.
Raven and Erik's conversation about Charles just sealed the deal on how much I love the way you write these characters, and I will honestly pass out from fangirl-ish glee if there's ever more of this. The fondness in both their tones when they were talking about him and his quirks was just amazing. My favorite part, in fact, was when Erik remembered the way Raven nudged Charles when he began to talk too much about something. How she looks out for him even in day-to-day conversation is just amazing, and really emphasises the bond between the two characters.
So, I wasn't as speechless (or combusted) as I thought, but I do admit to having stared at my computer screen for about an hour and a half before deciding what to write in response to this. As you can probably tell, I'm not someone who can just say: "I love it, write more soon" to something like this.
Thank you so much for providing such an amazing response. If you do decide to continue, you can count on me to be on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what happens next. ;D

First things first, I just love the way Raven went all BAMF on that guard! Totally deserved it, he did. It's sad, though, that Charles reacted as if the guard had a right to say that to him, almost like he's used to that treatment from the outside world and has accepted it, even. Unfortunately, it's something that has happened to all of the aspie's in my life at some point.
On a happier note, the fact that Raven played chess with Charles before Erik stepped in was strangely adorable, and yet another way I see her looking out for him - after all, as Erik said, Charles probably beats her 90% of the time anyway, right? The way I see it, Raven knew full well that Erik would volunteer to play in her place, which is why she said yes to Hank in the first place.
I'm absolutely loving it so far. The way Charles acts is definitely reminiscent of the people I know with AS, but at the same time is something entirely unique to him. I can't wait to read the next installment and see where it takes us!
