He tried not to dream. When he woke, he deliberately focused on his surroundings, on any possible routine he was able to remember or create simultaneous to waking. When he woke, he did his best to forget his nightmares.
There were the ones that had become most familiar: rapid snapshots with so much refracted light and the gleam of steel, scenes of dissection and experimentation beneath a spotlight. He was used to those. Those he could handle.
But there were others, too. He dreamed sometimes of something that might have been a mere fabrication drawn from his desires. An evening warmed by candlelight. The feeling of a full stomach. The sight of his mother’s peaceful face.
But those dreams often spiraled once more into the failure, a stilled world when he had no power, just fear. That his fear thereafter evolved into power - a surge of raw, unadulterated power - was no consolation.
And on the tail end of such particular dreams, another’s face often surfaced. Another to whom he’d failed. Nightmares, again. A world too, stilled by failure, his power there but unable to retract inaction, action, just existence at its utmost. There were no choices within.
It was all he had - his power. (If he'd had those, he might have - ) No regrets here, in this. It was never a choice.

“What’s wrong with you?” Erik asked.
They’d pulled over not long ago He was accustomed to silence. He was well-acquainted with sleeping in the rough and familiar enough with isolation. Here, it was just cool enough to be only mildly uncomfortable in the dark.
Theo hadn’t spoken since they’d been in the hotel, and, surprisingly, the absence of his verbal vitriol made Erik feel slightly unnerved. Without the wrist and ankle cuffs, Erik couldn’t well use his power to prod at the boy.
He reached across the median to nudge Theo with his knuckles instead. He expected to be called a pervert again, or some other shocking slur, but instead he was met with a yelp of pain.
“I barely touched you, you baby!” Erik said, an incredulous laugh escaping him.
But the laugh died as quickly as it had flared when Theo curled tighter over his right side. There, Erik caught sight of blood on his shirt, most of it hidden behind the knapsack.
A cold fist gripped Erik’s chest. “Did they - ”
“I’m not a baby!” Theo exclaimed. His voice held anger, but it sounded thin. “It hurts.”
“Let me see,” Erik said, leaning forward.
Theo pressed harder against the door, resting the side of his face against the glass. “No.”
The gearshift prodded at Erik’s thigh as he moved closer, but that was indeed blood, sticky and drying between Theo’s fingers. He grabbed the knapsack from Theo’s grasp and tossed it into the back seat.
“Hey!”
The boy’s shirt had turned a rusty red color. The material stuck to his chest around a wound Erik couldn’t see. “They shot you?” he gasped out. “They - ” He swallowed, his hands hovering uncertainly just over Theo’s shoulder.
Charles, Erik thought wildly beneath the safety of the helmet. Charles, these are the people you want to save? People who shoot innocent children?
Distantly, he heard a screech of metal, felt the car tremble, could smell the tang of blood.
Theo was shaking his head insistently. “No!” he said, staring up at Erik with wide open eyes. “Stop it! It’s you!”
And again, the world stilled.

What else can I say but to say again how much I enjoy your Eric's ressemblance to the original character? For as I mentioned before I can totally imagine Eric behaving this way.
