Han rolls out of bed, dislodging the cat from his hip, and pulling his sweater on over his t-shirt. The apartment is always too fucking cold in the winter. He can hear Muds in the bathroom, and he gives a scowl over in the direction of the door. He never gets up in time to be first. Ever.
The place is strangely quiet as he makes his way to the kitchen to make coffee. He doesn't think much of it at first; things are quiet when Muds isn't in the room, when it's jut him and Noodle. Then it hits him...Noodle. Eh, she's probably still asleep...or gone out to play in the snow or something. The snow seems more likely. She's an odd kid and far more of a morning person than himself or his brother.
He flops down at the small table and rests his head on his arms, waiting for the coffee to finish, or for Muds to finish...whichever comes first. And as his eyes slowly slip closed, he notices a piece of paper on the table. A thin hand snakes out to slide it closer, and he squints at it.
Written in neat, careful little block letters is a note:
My boys --
By the time you find this, I will be gone. Do not try to find me. I am sorry that I could not tell you that I was leaving, but I hope you understand why. I also cannot tell you why I am leaving. It is really for the best, and for the safety of both of you that I do not. I know how terrible it sounds, but I do not want harm to come to you either of you.
I will miss you and hope that you will think of me often. Perhaps we will meet again some day. I hope that we do.
Murdoc, you may keep the the Winnebago. You are a much better driver than I am. Please take care of Hannibal. He says he does not need help, but we both know that he does. Please tell Stu that I have gone, and that I love him. Be nice to him, Murdoc.
Hannibal, you are a sweet boy. You can deny it all that you want, that doesn't make it untrue.
I love both of you. You are my brothers, always.
-- Noodle
It takes him a couple of tries to get through the entire thing, working out the words with a soft mumble and narrowed eyes. And then he yells.
"MUDS, GET THE FUCK IN HERE!"
