After the Carnival

Sep 05, 2006 23:47

The carnival had been weird as hell for Hannibal and Andy and they hadn't stayed long after the mirror incident. They were both too freaked out to really enjoy themselves, so it was decided that they should go. But neither of them wanted to go home and be alone. Being freaked out and alone is never a good combination. Hanging out with Muds and Stu ( Read more... )

Muds wakes up in the bedroom alone and has to wonder where the fuck Han is. He came home from Stu's and eventually passed out, but he remembers hearing Han and Andy's voices in the apartment. Oh well...Andy must have stayed with him in the other room. Good for Han...

Stretching out, Murdoc pulls a large shirt on to keep him...herself covered and wanders blearily out to the living room. Where...there are two strangers on the couch.

"What the fuck?!" Goddamnit. And she left the gun back in the bedroom.
"Ok..who the fuck are you? Why the hell are you in my house? If you just wandered in to sleep it off, go wait for the shakes out on the stairs like good junkies. Shit."
Her feet are spaced apart and her eyes are hard and angry to mask the fear. Every indication of being tough as nails despite being half naked and a little frail.

Han shifts and blinks awake under the blindfold. He tries to sit up, but Andy's on top of him. What's going on? Who is that yelling? And why can't he see? He frowns and pulls the blindfold off, but it doesn't help. Oh yeah...that whole blind thing. It still doesn't explain who's yelling at him, though.

"Who the fuck are are you? This isn't your house, okay? It's mine. And we ain't junkies, so shut up." Really not the best comeback, but he's still mostly asleep and really quite confused. Still, he scowls at the girl the best he can, though his eyes don't quite look at her.

Andy clings tightly to Hannibal. There's never a good time to be woken up by a stranger yelling at you, but some times are worse than others.

She looks over at the girl and blinks. Her eyes... But that can't be. Of course, what's happened to her and Han shouldn't be either.
"Leave us alone. This is Han's apartment."
It's all the talking to strange naked people she has strength for, really, and now she can't stop staring at the girl... The eye color and the expression are so like Murdoc...

As soon as Han speaks, a chill runs down Murdoc's spine. Even with some of the rough edge smoothed from it, Muds knows his brother's voice. When the blindfold comes off, he blanches. He also knows what blindness looks like...
And that girl sounds like Andy? What the fuck...

"Jesus.... Han? Andy? I..." Muds pulls the shirt down and brings her legs together, a little more modest suddenly. "What the hell?" It's not like it's any less confusing for them, though, is it? "Oh...um...it's me...it's Muds. I..I don't know. I woke up like this."

"Han? What's wrong with your eyes?"

"Muds...?" But...that doesn't make any sense. But then again, what does make sense lately? There's no way to explain any of it or make sense of the fact that his brother is now a girl, apparently. Things just get better and better.

He pushes the hair from his face and sighs shakily. He'd sort of hoped that sleeping would mean he'd wake up and all of it would be a dream or something. "I don't..." He shakes his head, brow furrowing. "I dunno what's wrong with 'em, they just don't work anymore. Apparently at the worst time ever, cos if yer a girl I wanna see it."

"Shut the fuck up, Han."
Now Muds is really sure it's Hannibal. Han also makes it hard to feel bad for him. It's a good trick. They both know how to do it and it's appreciated, really.

"Yer blind, huh? Holy fuck... Did that come alone with.. Well, with whatever the fuck else happened to you? It'll go away then, right? I mean..I'm hopin' this will go away. Anyways...um...listen close, cos it makes it easier to know where people are and um...it helps to be around people, I think."
That is all the blind advice Muds can work up right now. Things are too weird to think too hard.

"Andy, you um...you look good."

"Thanks. ... Damn. I thought it was you, but...it didn't seem like a for real kind of thing that could happen. Wow... You um...you don't look bad either."
That probably isn't helpful, but..Murdoc is surprisingly pretty. It's really very weird. She wishes Han could see it.

"This happened after the carnival... We saw it there in the mirrors and then when we woke up it was real. You went there, right? Is that what happened to you?"
Surely there can't be that many different things out there causing this sort of strange transformation.

"I went to the carnival, yeah, but I didn't see any damn mirrors. I don't know what did this shit."

Being exposed is getting far too uncomfortable and Muds wanders back into the bedroom. She raises her voice to still be heard.
"Han, I'm borrowing your jeans." Zipping the fly up she comes back out to the living room. "Mine...kept falling down."

"It better go away..." He scowls again. "Fuckin carnival."

Sighing, he rubs at his eyes, half hoping that will fix them, though he knows it won't. The advice Muds gives is good and he'll try to remember it, but it still sucks that he needs the advice to begin with.

Muds needs to borrow his pants? Well that's depressing. It makes him scowl deeper. "Yeah, whatever...not like I'm goin anywhere t' need them." His scowl falls as a thought occurs to him. "Shit...what about work? I can't go like this..."

"Fuck... Well, it's not like I can go into the store, either...or to school. I could beg Sands for somethin' to do that he'll pay me for? I dunno. Shit."
Pouting pitifully, Muds drops down into the chair near the couch.

"This sucks..."

"Maybe we can all find good enough excuses for a while? At least til we're feeling better, if not until things improve."
She doesn't want to say 'go back to normal', because she doesn't want them to be normal again. Andy likes how she looks now and she likes Han not being sick. She just wishes she wasn't either and that Han could see.

"Yeah, I guess..." Though if his eyes don't go back to normal, he doesn't know what he's going to do; a blind guy making and serving hot beverages isn't really the best idea, he's pretty sure of it. He doesn't want to go back to normal either, but if it meant he could see, he'd be okay with it. "If I get fired over this shit, I'm fucked."

"If you get fired ya'll get another job. No problem." Muds knows it's harder for Han, but encouragement is better than not. "And there's lots of shit you can do without seein. Sands can't see shit and I had no fucking clue til he told me."
There's a slight sniffle, but it's well muffled. Murdoc knows what it's like to be blind and the thought of Han being stuck like that is horrible.

"So..so you two just gonna hang out on the couch or whatever? Look...Han...I..I'll help you out with how t'get around and shit, okay? I just...I gotta get out of here for a while."
Too much all at once. He'll just try and find Stu. No. Liz maybe? Or Sands... There aren't many Muds would be willing to share this with. Maybe he...she'll just go hide for a while to think over everything. It needs thinking. The bedroom isn't private enough with company in the house and he can't complain to Han when Han's worse off. Damn it. So running and hiding it is.

Han's brow furrows at the thought of getting another job. The thought of it makes him a bit sick. He'd been doing so well and to lose it all now is a terribly frightening idea.

He blinks in the general direction of his brother...sister? Shit this is confusing. "Uh...yeah. Go ahead..." He'd sort of figured Muds would hang around. But he probably shouldn't have. "I guess we'll stay here...or...I will. I dunno. Whatever."

There's something uncomfortable about family members. Being raised as an only child to a mother who treats her more like a roommate, Andy doesn't really get family relations and she feels awkward around it.
It seems sad that Murdoc is leaving, even if everything was weird.

She snuggles close to Han and whispers quietly.
"I'll stay with you...I won't go anywhere unless you want me to." And she kisses his cheek softly.

And that's just the problem. Andy has everything all handled. Murdoc is used to having a monopoly on his brother's time and limited affections. It didn't seem that important until someone else started getting that attention. Now he's jealous and has to work hard to keep it at bay.

Muds needs her brother right now. She needs someone familiar to lean on and Stu just can't be that this time. But Muds needs that alone. It would even be ok if she had to take care of Han and help him with the blindness if they were just there for each other like always. New people are always in the way.

She scowls and heads out the door and down the stairs. She needs a walk to think.
