OOC: Obligatory Info Post...

I'll try not to get too TL;DR on people, since there's a whole lot I could say that's not pertinent to Milieux, and there are things in this post I want people to know because they will pertain to how I play him here... thus:

The character of Souji Okita is based on an actual member of the Shinsengumi, who were a group of samurai working as protectors of Kyoto near the end of the Tokugawa shogunate (they came to the city in 1863). Souji was born in Edo (now Tokyo) in either 1842 or 1844. In real life, and in Peacemaker Kurogane, Okita is something of a prodigy. He began training at the age of nine, and had mastered the techniques of his style (Tennen Rishin-ryu) by the age of eighteen, after which time he became an instructor himself.

In the anime, no one will spar with Okita, due to his inability to restrain himself. Once a fight starts--even a practice one--he sees his opponent only as the enemy and, unless interrupted, will cause serious injury or death to those he faces. At one point, he tells Tetsunosuke (the protagonist of the series) that he is not a child of man, but rather a demon's child. Hijikata (one of the Shinsengumi's vice commanders) seems to feel guilt over this aspect of Souji's personality, seemingly because a sword was placed in his hand at such a young age.

In general, Okita is fun loving, even childish at times. He has a love of sweets, enjoys playing with children, and unlike the other members of the Shinsengumi, does not carry his sword when not on duty, and is rarely seen without his pet pig Saizou.

Sadly, the real Okita died at the age of 25, in his family's home in Edo, of tuberculosis. He's afflicted with the illness in the anime as well.

So, yes. I am in your village, spreading infectious diseases. (Only not really. We can assume he's not contagious, okay?) This may lead to occasional mild angst, but let's face it, it's the 21st century, and theoretically curable now, so aside from a persistent cough, I'm not going to make too much of it.

ETA: Ah. I knew I forgot something. About the name thing... It's Japan, so they have that whole 'family name first' thing going on, and though I switched it around to keep from confusing people, he's generally referred to as 'Okita' in the series, so that's what I default to. Everyone is free to call him Souji, though, since that is his 'first' name.
