Fandom: Dragon Age: Origins
Pairing: Sten x Morrigan
Theme set: Alpha
Title: Team Surly
Rating: R
Warning[s]: Slight spoilers and sexy times.
Notes: HOLY MOTHER OF YES THIS MONSTER IS FINALLY FINISHED. Seriously, this thing took way longer than it needed to. I'm not terribly fond of the pairing but a friend of mine challenged me to do it, and thus this beast was born. I've never really written anything before, so if anything seems hinky just let me know; I'm open to critique. Hope y'all enjoy!

01 / Comfort

Her silence soothes him, instills in him that kind of comfort that only grows from the connection of kindred souls.

02 / Kiss

Sometimes she’d make certain that he get extra filthy during a battle just so she could steal a glance at his sun-kissed skin alit by the night’s fire as he cleaned his armor, devoid of his usual linen shirt.

03 / Soft

Both were shaped by harsh upbringings, hardened into their current cynical selves, so when confronted with the thought that harmless teasing had somehow transformed into an awkward courting dance, neither knew how to proceed.

04 / Pain

She admires the unwavering self-control of her bronze comrade; even as the salve she pours into his open wound sizzles and cracks, he does not flinch, not once.

05 / Potatoes

The muddy vegetable concoction bubbles away in the cast iron cauldron, an ironic representation of these strange feelings stewing inside her chest.

06 / Rain

Sten growls as the first freezing drops fall, firstly because he is still not quite accustomed to traveling in such a wretchedly wet country, and secondly because the witch is laughing at his discomfort, giggling that she would gladly warm his tent if he so desires.

07 / Chocolate

When cookies littered with tiny chunks of chocolate mysteriously appear on his bedroll, Sten notes that he needs to keep better watch of his belongings…after he finishes the treats, of course.

08 / Happiness

“Do not be alarmed, Sister, what you are experiencing is just a little emotion called joy,” the Warden winks at Morrigan’s disarray, “most likely derived from the recent development of your not-so-secret relationship with our stoic giant friend.”

09 / Telephone

Lowly peons, Morrigan scowls as the underworld couriers scurry through the seedy back alleys of Denerim, every ounce the middlemen for those too cowardly to meet their enemies face-to-face.

10 / Ears

Neither could believe their ears when Zevran, having interrupted their sparring match, suddenly announced, “Ah, my apologies, friends; I shall leave you to your foreplay.”

11 / Name

“What,” the Warden shrugs, “we all agree ‘Team Surly’ to be quite the fitting nickname for you and Sten.”

12 / Sensual

Morrigan has always fancied herself quite the temptress- the knowledge of how to make a man fall to his knees at her whim seemed to be imbedded into her very being-so why, pray tell, does she feel so helpless when it comes to Sten?

13 / Death

Morrigan does not inform her lover (yes, she thinks it rather appropriate to share with Sten such a title) that she shall lay with another tonight, for the safety and protection of a sister she has never known.

14 / Sex

Women are a weak sex, good only for cooking and procreation, but Morrigan…Morrigan is different somehow; however, he certainly does not question her sex.

15 / Touch

The Warden at last manages to convince Morrigan to take Sten with her and go look for firewood, the witch finally conceding with one last warning, “If that bumbling idiot Alistair touches any of my belongings, just a one, I swear I will make all of his childish nightmares come true.”

16 / Weakness

Heated pry bars and full plated armor are not her usual choice of toys, but she is willing to try anything if only to spend one night with him.

17 / Tears

Morrigan has only wept two times in her entire life: the first, when Flemeth smashed that dear mirror which she had so coveted, and the second, the night of her inevitable departure, that night before the battle with the Archdemon.

18 / Speed

Sten sets his jaw as the wolf brushes past his leg (again, he notes in silent agitation), it’s remarkably gold eyes glittering with mirth; as it sprints to scout ahead of the party he remarks, “If you are so eager to prove your speed, witch, perhaps then you should compete with your mabari companion.”

19 / Wind

The Archdemon is dead, the Blight subsiding, she has fulfilled her pact with the Warden, and she thinks maybe now that Ferelden has nothing left to offer her it is the perfect time to ride the winds to Seheron and begin anew.

20 / Freedom

Morrigan knows that she can never fully explicate just how much it means to her that he battled Flemeth of his own volition and has yet to ask for something in return.

21 / Life

“Bred to be plumped and readied for the slaughter like some common farm animal is not a life, it is a cage,” she bites out, knowing full well that no one knew better than he the frustration of being trapped in a pen with naught but the choice to sit and await execution.

22 / Jealousy

Morrigan had always thought envy to be such an unnecessary emotion, but more oft than not she found herself wishing that he would gaze upon her in the same manner that he did Asala.

23 / Hands

Just a sliver of respect keeps him from tearing her limb from limb with his bare hands; the thought alone sets a fire between her legs.

24 / Taste

He does not even register the tang of copper that floods his mouth, too focused on the goal: Kill the abomination that is Flemeth.

25 / Devotion

“There is no way,” the shapeshifter growls at the matching set of Chantry robes Leliana had procured, the rogue declaring that no one in Fort Drakon will question their presence if they are properly disguised.

26 / Forever

“Evil like hers is eternal,” Morrigan smoothes a hand over the worn binding of the Black Grimoire, “she shall return and I shall be ready for her.”

27 / Blood

“I am no barbarian; I do not eat children, drink the blood of the innocent, or slurp down the innards of my victims, and you would do well to remember that.”

28 / Sickness

He must have a sickness, she resolves, for there is no other explanation for such a mighty creature as Sten to be associating with-and imitating!-the Warden’s filthy mongrel.

29 / Melody

The sound of his blade dealing the final crushing blow to the ogre is a gory symphony composed only for her ears.

30 / Star

“The stars are the same,” he rumbles out of the blue one evening while they take watch together, and as limited as her empathetic skill set is she recognizes the tone as longing; this great warrior is homesick, of all things, she realizes.

31 / Home

The moment she enters an in fact empty hut (she scoffs at the memory) a most unwelcome emotion sends her heart plummeting into her chest-loneliness; she is completely and utterly alone.

32 / Confusion

Her tawny eyes squint as the cogs of her mind click and whir at the strenuous activity of trying to process the preposterous idea that Sten is not attracted to her in any way, shape, or form; ’tis absolutely mindboggling.

33 / Fear

She revels in the tremors of terror running through the Templars as she sucks the life from their very bodies.

34 / Lightning/Thunder

She had the power to call forth lightning from her very fingertips, and he every ounce of thunder boom in each syllable he uttered.

35 / Bonds

The Warden has retrieved for him Asala, effectively unshackling him from this disease-ridden land of gluttony and greed-so why does he feel so reluctant to leave?

36 / Market

“Just so you know, this wasn’t cheap, and that scummy merchant cheated me, so,” The Warden shoves a bundle-a mirror by the feel of it-into his hands, “don’t cock this up.”

37 / Technology

“Oh, ’tis a modern marvel indeed,” she sneers at the newest invention on display at the Denerim market, far more interested in the way the merchants shrink back in fear as her Qunari companion stalks by their stalls.

38 / Gift

Surprise does not seize her senses at the discovery of a glittering chain strewn across her pillow, briefly recalling Sten’s earlier admittance of having noticed her “odd affinity for useless baubles.”

39 / Smile

He will never tell her the pleasure he derives from witnessing her true smile, bereft of sarcasm and mockery.

40 / Innocence

She is a veteran in the ways of seduction but a newborn lamb in the ways of romantic love.

41 / Completion

“I had nearly forgotten what it is like to be whole,” Sten murmurs, cradling Asala in his grand embrace.

42 / Clouds

Try as he might, Sten cannot deny the certain…distraction the witch proves to be when her skin, soft and white as the clouds, brushes against his just so.

43 / Sky

Morrigan could feel it on the wind as the sky cracked open, split by a blinding, supernatural light: the Archdemon had been vanquished, the Warden allowed to live another day.

44 / Heaven

She knows the Fade, has faced its madness with fearlessness, but nothing could ever have prepared her for the cruel trick it would play while she lay in the clutches of the Sloth demon.

45 / Hell

Another cell of Tal-Vashoth mercenaries rush them and Sten can only attempt to not wonder what could possibly have possessed members of his kind to willingly reside in this sopping, foreign hell.

46 / Sun

By the time they reach Haven, Sten realizes Ferelden has changed him; no longer can he recall the feel of Par Vollen’s sun on his face, the comfort the heat brought.

47 / Moon

The silver orb hung high in the night sky taunts her with dreams of her mother’s cackle, “Oh, how she dances under the moon.”

48 / Waves

The lazy way she rocks against his body reminds him of the shores of his home, the rhythm of the sea as it rolled against the sand; perhaps, he thinks, Ferelden is not so terrible after all.

49 / Hair

“Behave as an animal,” The Qunari’s strong fingers dig into her pale scalp, and Morrigan grits her teeth at the pain, “and you shall be treated as one.”

50 / Supernova

Her heart feels like it’s shining, burning brighter than the sun and for the first time in her adult life she is afraid, afraid that if he doesn’t stop she’ll explode into a thousand colors.
