Georgia writes letters to the people she loves - mostly to him - just in case tomorrow is goodbye.
#31 -Sacred
Their relationship, though clandestine and frowned upon, is her one sacred piece of normality.
#42 - Talk
There are nights when they fall asleep to the sound of their conversations.
#43 - Search
Though she knows it is pointless, Georgia can't help searching for some way to extend her life as she feels it slipping away.
#11 - Midnight
It's the only time she'll let herself cry.
#15 - Silk
And when Beagle tells her, under the silk, that everything will be all right, she believes him.
#06 - Hurricane
A hurricane starts somewhere in his chest when he hears what he already knows; the weight of the truth makes him bow his head.
#22 - Journey
This is a path they must walk together.
#28 - Forgotten
He decides then and there, upon realizing how little time she has just by the implication in Mrs. Kaminski's sorrowful glances at Georgia, that even when she is gone, he will remember her.
#03 - Memory
All of the times they shared are safe in his mind.
#04 - Box
Beagle hates that society has put his girlfriend in such a box, one filled with stigma and stupidity.
#05 - Run
"Do you think I'll be able to run in heaven?" She asks him one day between homework assignments.
#07 - Wings
"You'll be able to fly."
#34 - Formal
They pose for pictures before spending the night swaying in their own private square on the dance floor - this is a milestone for both of them.
#33 - World
He would give her the world if he were capable.
#29 - Dance
Prom is a rite of passage he happily accompanies her to.
#25 - Mask
She hides the truth about her health for as long as she can.
#01 - Ring
The only thing that really breaks her heart about dying this way is that there will never be a wedding.
#10 - Drink
Knowing that her time is almost up, she asks for one last night at the resort and drinks in all the sensations she can hold.

#20 - Talent
He confesses that this ability isn't natural - Guy taught him what he knows.
#36 - Laugh
They laugh and kiss for the rest of the afternoon.
#08 - Cold
Her decline starts with a simple virus.
#12 - Temptation
For a second she's tempted to tell him the truth, but one look in his eyes tells her that somehow, he already knows.
#37 - Lies
"I already know the truth - let me help you through this."
#02 - Hero
"You're my hero," he says, watching her eyes well with tears.
#48 - Unknown
"I don't know anything - I'm scared," and she breaks down in sobs.
#27 - Fall
He watches her collapse three weeks later; it's the single most frightening moment in his life.
#24 - Strength
Her bravado finally gone, she whimpers and clutches her chest - "it hurts!"
#41 - Wait
He wants to scream for some higher power to wait - there hasn't been enough time - but instead he races to call 911 and watches her unsteady breathing.
#39 - Overwhelmed
The pain is a hundred hot knives stabbing her from the inside out - but Georgia sees Beagle's face in her blurred line of sigh and isn't so incapacitated anymore.
#50 - Breathe
"Hold on."
#49 - Lock
Watching her makes him want to put a lock on the emotions that are slowly strangling him, stopping his breath in tandem with hers.
#47 - Highway
The ride to the hospital where his mother died is unbearably long; he had hoped to never again see someone he loved be ushered through the emergency entrance.
#44 - Hope
And he wonders, dares for a moment to think that maybe there's a shred of hope as he watches a team of doctors swarm around her bed through the tiny window on the door - but he sees the blinking red light and finds that his optimism is quickly disappearing; unable to stay, he flees, running for a pay phone.
#46 - Gravity
He's rooted to the spot as he breaks the grim news to Ms. Kaminski - imagining her face, pale and shocked, and thinking maybe she's just as paralyzed as he is right now.
#40 - Whisper
She doesn't die immediately - there are many quiet nights spent sitting vigil in her hospital room, where even silence has a sound because there's so much beeping - and in the dark he reminds her that she is loved.
#38 - Forever
Once upon a time, there was a king and a queen, both rulers of a perfect world, destined to have their forever cut short.
#26 - Ice
He can feel Georgia's hand in his, growing colder and thinner each day - he doesn't want her to leave.

It's hard not to wonder what she'll see in the afterlife.
#17 - Promise
"I'll be here until the end."
#18 - Dream
They both hope this is a dream - there has to be a way to escape death.
#23 - Fire
Beagle's rage against this cruelty is strong - a flame.
#35 - Fever
He keeps her tied to consciousness when rigors strike - always there, always bobbing in her vision, the anchor in the stormy sea.
#21 - Silence
The end comes painlessly for her, and he's thankful for that, even as his heart breaks with a cracking sound he's sure the whole hospital can hear.
#09 - Red
Her favorite color was that of a fall leaf - this, instead of black, is what's worn to her funeral.
#16 - Cover
Because he loves her, he feels no shame in kissing her forehead one last time - and he closes the lid of her coffin, knowing her spirit is somewhere far more peaceful.
#45 - Eclipse
Beagle knows there will never be another woman in his life - Georgia eclipsed all of his expectations for love, and so it is impossible to meet or surpass them ever again.
#19 - Candle
"I hope you use this light to see while you fly - fly home - you have wings."
