#01-Motion
Most people would have been offended, but when Tex rolled her eyes and flipped him off, Church just smirked.
#02-Cool
It may have been a planet made entirely out of ice but there was a small nagging doubt in the back of Tex’s mind, that even on the warmest planet she’d still find herself feeling chilled as she stood in front of her former boyfriend, her armour covered in the blood of his now dead teammates.
#03-Young
They met when they were both five, he gave her a flower and told her she was pretty- she beat him up.
#04-Last
The last time he saw her was as she ran into the spaceship with the bomb in it and he wished once again that she wasn’t so damn stubborn.
#05-Wrong
He didn’t usually like being wrong, but when Tex leaned over and kissed him one day at the Blue base, he realized that sometimes being wrong wasn’t so bad.
#06-Gentle
Her punches might have been as hard as ever, but he had noticed that he’d been on the receiving end of a lot less of them, in retrospect it had been rather stupid to ask if she’d been going soft.
#07- One
When he asked her why she said yes, the answer.
“because no one else could put up with you”
didn’t really surprise him.
#08-Thousand
He’d thought up at least a thousand responses she might have had to his question, but her simple
“sure, why not” had surprised him none the less.
#09-King
If he was any kind of King he would have been one from a chess set; one with a Queen who enjoyed pointing out just how useless he was in battle.
#10-Learn
The new girl at base learned quickly that while Tex might not have shown any special affection towards Church, flirting with him was a really bad idea.
#11-Blur
His memories of his time before the military are nothing more than a blur with a few instances of clarity that, for some reason, always seem to involve Tex.
#12- Wait
Tex was never one to slow down for anyone, so it didn’t surprise him that the day he told her he’d joined the army, she informed him that she was already moving up into the Special Forces.
#13-Change
It been strange to get used to at first, the idea of waking up in the middle of the night to someone in your bed and not having to wonder if Caboose had, had another bad dream, but even as Tex muttered at him to just go back to sleep already, he had to admit that it wasn’t a bad change.
#14-Command
She liked to tell herself that the only reason she visited was because he was stuck in a canyon leading a group of idiots.
#15-Hold
They both wake up in the middle of the night because of the nightmares, Tex dreaming of Omega controlling her mind again and Church with visions of murdered comrades; when that happens they always seem to end up in the same bed, just laying there in the darkness holding onto each other.
#16-Need
She didn’t need anyone and he didn’t need anyone, and yet somehow along the years their maxims had warped into them needing each other and neither of them were quite sure how.
#17-Vision
“Are you sure you don’t need glasses,” Tex commented as once again Church missed something a mile off with his sniper rifle.
#18-Attention
Sometimes she had to wonder if his constant habit of getting on her nerves was just him trying to get her attention.
#19-Soul
One of the things she liked about spending time with Church was, even though he teased her and they argued, he didn’t see her as a monster, even after all the horrible things she had done.
#20-Picture
It takes him a while just to look in her old room at the base, even after she’d been “gone” for months and when he goes in and finds a picture of them on their first date beside the cot, he just sat there quietly for a very long time.
#21-Fool
When it came to romantic moments, Church’s one skill always seemed to be in ruining them.
#22-Mad
In a rare case of empathy, Tex decided against telling Church that the guys in the freelancer program were taking bets on how long it would take her to dump him.
#23-Child
She glared up at him from the hospital bed as he held the child in the dark blue blanket, “if you think for even one minute that we’re naming him Caboose I’m going to kick your ass, IV or not.”
#24-Now
Considering their equal stubbornness and ability to argue, some people might have wondered how they hadn’t broken up again; those that knew the two better wondered how they hadn’t killed each other by now.
#25-Shadow
Tex liked the shadows, they were private and even without her armour’s invisibility she had always been good at hiding in them, and yet for some reason Church always seemed to be able to spot her; she wasn’t sure why this didn’t annoy her as much as it should.
#26-Goodbye
It had been her final quiet goodbye, so unlike her, that told Church she was gone, the explosion afterwards just cemented the knowledge.
#27-Hide
The fact that they were a couple again was the news of the canyon for a while, at least until Caboose and Shelia got together and Church was glad when the obnoxious comments shifted away from his and Tex’s love life, anyway he figured that Tucker was running out of places to hide.
#28-Fortune
He chuckled as she marched off towards the fortune-tellers tent, fully prepared to beat the crap out of the person to get Caboose’s money back.
#29-Safe
During a war there were few moments when you felt completely safe, but the fact that they were both occupying the same base for once made both of them feel a bit better.
#30-Ghost
As she stood on a cliff above the canyon with her sniper rifle, she stared quietly at the scene at the blue base, trying to ignore both the mocking tones of the AI and her own horror that she was looking down at the ghost of her boyfriend.
#32-Eye
There’s something about her eyes now she has that AI, a haunted dead gaze that makes Church quickly look away whenever he looks at her; despite her protests, he knows that thing is changing her.
#33-Never
He swore to himself that he was never going to fall for her again, something that he found out was much easier to believe when she wasn’t living in the same base as him.
#34- Sing
Tex swore that not only was she never drinking again, she was going to fucking kill him if he showed anyone that video, Church just made a mental note to hide it from her.
#35- Sudden
The next thing Church knew she’d angrily pushed him against the wall and deciding that if he was already going to die he might as well do something incredibly stupid, he kissed her.
#36-Stop
He stopped when he realized he wasn’t dead, she was just staring at him in shock, maybe he was a coward for using that moment to sneak away, but at least he was a live coward.
#31-Book
She glared over at Church, his nose in a book, trying desperately to ignore the fact that it was obvious she wasn’t leaving until she got an answer.
#37-Time
“You have five seconds to tell me what the fuck that was all about, or this time I really will kill you” Tex glared at him, his book still not working as a shield.
#38-Wash
He glared at Washington, didn’t he understand, Tex just had to be around here somewhere, she just had to be.
#39-Torn
She wasn’t exactly torn in her decision, it was the right thing to do, but she did start to feel conflicted when she realized how far he was willing to go to make her change her mind.
#40-History
Despite their history together and the fact that they managed to argue like an old married couple, if you presented Tex and Church with a problem, they were usually able to find a way out of it, albeit with a lot of bickering and insults along the way.
#41-Power
Despite the fact that he is the teams (self appointed) Captain, it doesn’t stop her from ignoring the orders he gives if she thinks they’re stupid, or if she just has something better to do.
#42-Bother
She’s not sure what’s stranger; the fact that she’s currently staying in a base with a group of idiots and her ex boyfriend, or the fact that she no longer places Church in the former category.
#43-God
Considering the fact that they’re both dead, neither one of them is sure what to believe anymore.
#44-Wall
It wasn’t his fault Tex had a fucking wall around her heart...made of tigers; Church glared at the swaying cup in his hand, he needed another drink.
#45-Naked
When Tucker came back with a black eye after accidently walking in on Tex in the shower Church was very tempted to give him another for bragging about it.
#46-Drive
He was never sure where Tex got her drive to succeed, but sometimes he really wished she wasn’t so damned competitive, especially when they were just playing checkers.
#47-Harm
Church watched as Tex pointed her gun at the woman’s head “If you want them Nevada, you’re going to have to go through me.”
#48-Precious
Every now and then, when he knew he was alone he’d pull out the ring that he wore around his neck, the one that was supposed to be for her....and just stare at it.
#49-Hunger
He didn’t realize just how starved he was for human contact or maybe just hers, but when she kissed him, he responded by deepening the kiss, not bothering to think of how incredibly stupid this idea could turn out to be.
#50-Believe
He always held onto the slight hope that someday, somehow he’d manage to free her from that damn AI.
