Author's Note: x-posted. I'm actually supposed to be working on my screenplay for Script Frenzy, but I decided to finish this instead, even though I'm way behind. I am a horrible person.
01.) Ring
Near sat on the park bench, right hand clutching Matt’s and staring happily at the gold band on his left.
02.) Hero
Near wouldn’t cry, but Matt would, and he did; and while Near was as stoic as ever, Matt knew that he was mourning too because their heroes were gone and it hurt.
03.) Memory
Matt knew he would never forget the nights he had spent with Mello, but he didn’t need too; the ones spent with Near were better.
04.) Box
Only after the last domino been placed did Matt and Near realize they were in the middle of the city they had been building all afternoon.
05.) Run
Matt wasn’t very athletic, but he would run after Near forever, if he had to.
06.) Hurricane
While Mello had been a hurricane, all harsh winds and pelting rain, Near was the ocean on a calm day, and Matt was happy for the difference.
07.) Wings
Matt thought the only way he could fly was in an airplane; now though, all he has to do is be with Near.
08.) Cold
Cuddling with Matt, a blanket wrapped around the two of them was the only thing that stopped Near from hating the cold.
09.) Red
Near’s least favourite colour was red, because it reminded him of the blood that had been seeping from the bullet holes covering Matt’s body, and how it almost didn’t stop.
10.) Drink
During the middle of their first kiss, Near had pulled away and vomited the alcohol and what little amount of food he had consumed onto the carpet.
11.) Midnight
It was almost midnight and they should have been sleeping, but instead they were lying on the roof, admiring the stars.
12.) Temptation
What was I thinking, Matt asked himself as he watched Near suck the cherry lollipop he had given him.
13.) View
If you asked Matt what Near looked like when he slept, he would say he looked the same as when he was awake: an angel.
14.) Music
Near had never been one for music, but as he passed the music room and saw Matt at the piano, playing Beethoven’s Fur Elise, he couldn’t help but stop and listen.
15.) Silk
Matt had always laughed at romance novels, with their softer than silk skinned heroines and the idiots who fell in love with them, but then he touched Near, who‘s skin really was softer than silk and decided that the guys weren’t idiots, they were just in love, and that romance novels really shouldn’t be laughed at.
16.) Cover
Near loved Matt’s eyes, but he hated his goggles, because they hid them from him.
17.) Promise
He knew promises were broken, but when Matt whispered that they would be together until they died -I promise-, he couldn’t help but hope that this one wasn’t.
18.) Dream
Sleep had been an escape from reality that Near had always welcomed, but now he had Matt, and he was better than anything a dream could ever offer.
19.) Candle
Nothing had ever held a candle to his games, not even Mello, before Near came along.
20.) Talent
Near knew that Matt had enough talent to surpass him, but wasn’t surprised when he stayed #3, because beating Near meant beating Mello.
21). Silence
It had always been deathly quiet in Near’s room before Matt had showed up with his DS, and no matter how much Near said he preferred the silence, they both knew he was lying.
22.) Journey
To Matt, Near’s body was a map he had memorized, but would never tire of.
23.) Fire
Matt knew that like Mello, Near had a fiery personality, you just had to get past his calm exterior, but, unlike Mello’s, his didn’t need quenching.
24.) Strength
When Near called Matt strong after he had carried him all the way to the infirmary, he had said that it was no big deal -anyone could have done it; you’re like a feather- but Near just smiled and said it again, liking the way Matt’s cheeks flushed with the compliment.
25.) Mask
The first time he saw Near, Matt swore that he would find the person hiding behind the mask; he did.
26.) Ice
Matt thought Near’s eyes were like ice, but then he realized that ice had nothing on any part of Near, especially his eyes.
27.) Fall*
Matt remembered a line from a song that he had never understood, until now, and realized that it is up that you can fall.
28.) Forgotten
Near had never been afraid of being forgotten, because he had no one to forget him, but along with Matt came that fear and Near isn’t sure it’s a bad thing.
29.) Dance
Near couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled in his throat when Matt grabbed his hands and began to twirl him around the living room.
30.) Body
It was a perfect fit, their bodies, Matt thought as he pulled Near closer to him.
31.) Sacred
Sex had never been a sacred thing for Matt, just something that made him feel good, and it still was after he meet Near, because he and Near didn’t have sex, they made love.
32.) Farewells
Goodbye was something Near hoped he would never have to say to Matt.
33.) World
Matt said the Earth revolved around him because he shined brighter than the Sun could ever hope to, and even though Near knew that was impossible, he couldn’t help the warmth that spread through his body.
34.) Formal
He made a mental note to get them invited to more formal events as he watched Matt make his way down the stairs in his new tuxedo.
35.) Fever
Near wasn’t a nurse, but he still looked incredibly sexy in the uniform.
36.) Laugh
He laughed at Matt’s jokes because he liked the smile Matt flashed him when he did, not because they particularly funny.
37.) Lies
Matt had never lied to Near, except for the time he had gone out, saying he was going to the grocery store, only to return with the kitten Near had been eyeing as they passed the pet store the day before.
38.) Forever
Near had never wanted forever to be real before he met Matt.
39.) Overwhelmed
Emotions weren’t a problem for Near, because if he ignored them they would eventually go away, but whatever this feeling for Matt was, it wasn’t planning on leaving any time soon.
40.) Whisper
Matt’s room was right next to Mello’s, and Mello must have had some super hearing power he hadn’t told Matt about because one night he barged in, shouting at them to shut the fuck up and take their sexing somewhere else because he was sick and tired of them doing it every night where he could hear!
41.) Wait
Near was patient, but it was hard when Matt was licking at his neck and running his hands over his stomach.
42.) Talk
Conversations with Matt never went the way Near planned, but after a while he stopped getting frustrated and just started enjoying them.
43.) Search
There was a piece of himself that Matt always knew was missing, but could never find; in the end, Near was the one who brought it to him.
44.) Hope
To Near, hope was Matt kissing him goodnight.
45.) Eclipse
Near never thought the Twilight craze would ever hit Wammy’s, not even Linda had shown any real interest in the books; he was proven wrong, however, when he ran across Matt reading a hardback copy of Eclipse and yelling at Bella for picking Edward over Jacob.
46.) Gravity
When Matt says he is the apple to Near’s Newton, he isn’t joking.
47.) Highway
They speed down the highway and they both know that it was about time they left.
48.) Unknown
They are both afraid of the unknown, but they jump anyway, because they know the other will be there to catch them.
49.) Lock
Near’s heart was locked, and even though it took several keys to open it, he did and he will never regret it (he hopes Near won‘t either).
50.) Breathe
They were drowning in the same sea and it wasn’t until they found each other that they realized that it was possible to breathe underwater.
