The wind howls, but she can’t really hear it, focused as she is on his soft, strained voice.

“Why are you staying in a dusty old tomb all by yourself?”
04 - Bugs
Rosette hates bugs with a passion; she once chased a cockroach through half of the dormitory just so she could make absolutely certain it died.
05 - Coffee
Splitting a hot pot of coffee with the Elder is part of Chrno’s morning routine; if nothing else, it makes him much more prepared for the task of waking Rosette.
06 - Dark
She sneaks out of the dormitory and across the grounds towards the Elder’s hut, like she does most nights; Chrno is, as always, awake and waiting for her.
07 - Despair
He should’ve known this would happen, that he’d hurt her; Magdalena died because of him, and now, so will Rosette...
08 - Doors
Another morning, another trek down the hallway to the fourteenth door to try and wake Rosette up; Chrno has Azmaria with him today, although he doesn’t think she’ll help much the way Rosette sleeps.
09 - Drink
It takes a lot less alcohol to make Chrno tipsy than Rosette would’ve guessed.
10 - Duty
“How dare you hurt my Contractor!”
11 - Earth
One day she talks him into telling her a story from his past, and he talks about traveling the west; at the time Rosette is too busy imagining Chrno as a gunslinger to notice that his story has holes in it, holes that she won’t have the answers for until several years later.
12 - End
“I’m sorry, Rosette, but it’s too dangerous for you to go with me; this is between Aion and me now.”
13 - Fall
He’s been disgraced in almost every possible way -- he’s even been “killed” in the Order’s records -- but Chrno can’t see himself as fallen; if anything, he’s fallen upwards to a much better life.
14 - Fire
The pictures terrify her -- ruined buildings, a smashed-in cable car, blood everywhere -- but what scares her more is the look on his face, or at least the part she can see, his every feature twisted in rage, his eyes burning like an inferno, the power in his stance -- there doesn’t seem to be any trace of the Chrno she knows...
15 - Flexible
He has to accept change; no matter what he wishes, Rosette isn’t a child anymore -- she’s an exorcist, and he has to let her fight her own battles... though he’s always there ready to help.
16 - Flying
Rosette loves the feeling of flying, although she wishes that she actually had the chance to enjoy it; it seems every time she gets to fly, it’s on a mission and she’s distracted by more important things.
17 - Food
He doesn’t eat as much as she does, which is why Rosette sneaks food off his plate.
18 - Foot
He doesn’t mean to step on her foot -- he’s never danced to anything this fast before -- but she does mean it when she stomps down on his.
19 - Grave
Every year he brings her flowers and tells her of what he’s done in the last twelve months; every year he gets just that much more removed from everything that happened back then.
20 - Green
There are times, when everything they do seems to go wrong and Joshua seems even farther away, that Rosette wishes she and he and Chrno could all be back at the orphanage, playing in the woods like they did before all this began.

Why is it that, when Rosette gets mad at him, she always swings for his head?
22 - Hollow
After a mission, one of the first things Chrno does is repack the weapons case, reloading the guns and placing each back in its own hollow in the padding; sometimes Rosette helps, when she’s not being lectured by Sister Kate, although that generally leads only to awkward moments when their hands brush in the confines of the case.
23 - Honor
“I’ll find you, Rosette, at the place we call home; I swear to you that I will find you.”
24 - Hope
“No matter what happens, Chrno, I’m going to keep moving!”

If not for her, he would’ve spent the rest of his life wasting away in that tomb; Chrno owes her more than he can ever give.

The day that has hung over his head for so long has finally come for him: Rosette’s dead; she’s dead and it’s all because of him.

The car barely has time to stop shaking before they start yelling together; “Not again...” mixes with “It’s not my fault!”

Without his braid dangling behind him like a tail, Chrno looks a lot older than he used to; she knows it shouldn’t bother her so much, but it reminds her of his real form.
29 - Old
“You really don’t have to braid my hair, Rosette,” he says, even though secretly he can’t wait to feel her fingers in his hair.
30 - Peace
“We’re going to be explorers when we grow up, and you’re coming with us, Chrno!”
31 - Poison
Chrno knows what Aion is trying to do: Aion wants to convince him that Rosette is nothing of importance, little more than a source of energy, but he knows better; he knows Rosette, and he cares for her, and he sees Aion’s words as the venom his “brother” wants them to be, so Chrno refuses to let them sway him.
32 - Pretty
“So, how do I look?” Rosette asks; Chrno tries not to stare at her legs -- that much of a slit on a dress just doesn’t seem right -- as he nods, not trusting himself to talk.
33 - Rain
His hands clutch frantically at her habit, his face buried in her chest; she can barely hear him over the crackling of what’s left of the thing that came out of the Spirit: “Rosette... you’re all right...”
34 - Regret
Regret is just a waste of time, something that holds people down when they should be running forward; the past can’t be changed, but the future is still an open book -- Chrno can’t believe it took him this long to realize that.
35 - Roses
It was the Elder’s idea to get Rosette flowers for her birthday; Chrno slipped into her room while she was out and left them there, although he wasn’t expecting to set off rumors about Rosette having a secret admirer.
36 - Secret
“I love you, Rosette Christopher...”

Aion isn’t getting away with this; she’s going to find him and make him pay for everything he’s done to Joshua, to her, to Satella, to Azmaria, to Chrno, and to the world.

The pocketwatch is the embodiment of their link: their lives, their love, their everything; it reminds Chrno of the past he left behind even as it tells him how long Rosette has left.

Chrno isn’t sure exactly how he forces his legion to do what he needs them to do; he just knows that he has to fight, or Rosette and the others are as good as dead, so Pandaemonia and her geas be damned.

Rosette will never, ever tell anyone, not even Chrno, but one afternoon she went to visit him in the woods and found him bathing in the river; Chrno will never, ever tell that after a mission one night he went to check on Rosette and found her taking a shower.

Rosette and Joshua are always a welcome sight in the woods, even though he knows they shouldn’t sneak away like this; Chrno enjoys the company.

She doesn’t like the cold, not at all; he takes sympathy on her and gives her his jacket to wear, and Rosette wears it for the rest of the day, ignoring all the looks she gets.
