Fandom: Rurouni Kenshin
Pairing: Makimachi Misao x Shinomori Aoshi
Theme Set: Delta
Rating: PG-13
#1 - Air
She breathed in the air, noting how it seemed fresher with Aoshi-sama in the vicinity.
#2 - Apples
He could remember a time when he used a knife to cut fruit snacks for Misao; as he stared down at Okina, using something sharp for that seemed idiotic.
#3 - Beginning
Her legs were determined to carry her over the edge, not to Himura, but to a fresh start with finding Aoshi-sama.
#4 - Bugs
“A-Aoshi-sama, get rid of the insects!” - Such innocent words, said by an innocent girl; his eyes drifted to her form, noticing how she had changed.
#5 - Coffee
He laid his head in his hands, taking note of how to not let Misao taste the foreigner drink ever again.
#6 - Dark
She wouldn't believe, couldn't believe, that he could turn into some sort of demon, casting aside his own comrades.
#7 - Despair
His mind was sinking into the brinks of hopelessness; there was only a young girl’s voice keeping him above.
#8 - Doors
Palms sweaty, sticking to her gloves, opening the door to see her idol restored to his former self; instead, there was her oldest caretaker on the floor, blood oozing from his wounds and the man she loved staring at her with dead eyes.
#9 - Drink
Misao had tried multiple times to be like her Aoshi-sama, but after sipping the tea (Blegh!), she wondered how he could enjoy colored water.
#10 - Duty
He would fulfill the promise of giving them eternal glory, but a voice telling him about a girl back home was making him think if this was the only way.
#11 - Earth
Even if they no longer existed on that plane, Misao could feel them giving her a light push towards her Aoshi-sama.
#12 - End
No one seemed to mind letting her take control of Aoshi-sama’s Oniwanbanshu, but it was only temporary; she would not let him end things like this.
#13 - Fall
Her body fell down from the sky into the ground, until she felt herself getting dragged up by Himura; still, she’d be damned if she thought that he could beat her Aoshi-sama.
#14 - Fire
He hopped into the hole, avoiding the burning flames; there was no point in dying, not when you had someone to go back to.
#15 - Flexible
Aoshi-sama may be a top martial artist/swordsman, but he doesn’t seem to be too flexible (He can’t even reach his toes? Come on.).
#16 - Flying
It was only for a second, a second only, but she was soaring, a step closer to reaching him.
#17 - Food
During the times of fun and laughter, he could recall a small child clinging to his back whining, “Ne, ne, Aoshi-sama, Do we have anything to eat?” - looking over at her frozen face, for a moment he wished for those times to come back.
#18 - Foot
“Baby steps” is what Okina had called them, he believed, and as he watched a young Misao take a few of her first steps, he supposed that this was indeed “baby steps”.
#19 - Grave
“This shining sun is a much better spot for them, huh Aoshi-sama?”
#20 - Green
“Aa. The living grass is much better suited.” - It was alive, like her.
#21 - Head
They headed over to the Shirobeko, and while Aoshi felt uncomfortable (like a traitor waltzing over in former ally territory), Misao was making him feel all welcomed again.
#22 - Hollow
She could convince her friends that Aoshi-sama was still good inside, that he was still good, but after that day on the hill, she didn’t know what to think anymore as she cried in her room (His eyes, his eyes…).
#23 - Honor
He had their honor to protect, to fulfill, but she was trying to convince him that there was more to life that that.
#24 - Hope
Her hope wasn’t only that Himura would bring him back; it was that he wouldn’t avoid her when he came back.
#25 - Light
He had admitted a long time ago that he was swallowed in darkness and that he would probably never get out; what he didn’t expect was to see a light coming in the form of a small 16-year-old.
#26 - Lost
She was surrounded by friends, protection, but they all treated her as an adult already (for the most part); there was no hand to guide her through the toughest points in her life.
#27 - Metal
With the curiosity of a child, she leaned closer and closer to the blade, wondering why it was so shiny, until Aoshi had to snatch it away for her safety (she was about to cut her finger off).
#28 - New
Hearing about her Aoshi-sama, her mind refused to comprehend that he had become someone different; this Aoshi-sama was not hers.
#29 - Old
Aoshi stared straight ahead at his former master; the old him might have thought about how he was betraying his bonds, and about to break a dear girl’s heart, but he wasn’t that person anymore.
#30 - Peace
Her face was a mask of concentration, trying to find the sense of calm he found while meditating, but it wouldn’t come to her; it was much more relaxing to run around while looking for him.
#31 - Poison
“Never show your face in front of me again.” - He may not have known it, but those words were like a sweet liquid dipped in hate for her; he should’ve been glad that it didn’t kill her.
#32 - Pretty
In a rare time of boredom, he had wandered through boxes of old letters, and upon finding Okina’s will to Misao, he definitely had to agree.
#33 - Rain
In his ever-recurring role as a guardian, he watched her dance around in the rain; no matter what the others said of her, she was a child in a woman’s body (a rather attractive child at that).
#34 - Regret
If there was one thing that Aoshi wished he could do over, it would be waking up Misao and at least saying goodbye to her.
#35 - Roses
Okina laughed at the clearly uncomfortable Aoshi; it was priceless, “My boy, if you want to win a lady’s heart, bring her some flowers. That’s sure to make her love you!”
#36 - Secret
Due to his immense height, Misao had to call Aoshi-sama down and stand on her tippy-toes just so she could whisper in his ear, “There’s someone I really like who I think you know pretty well. Can you help me out?”
#37 - Snakes
Aoshi couldn’t help but laugh at the resemblance in those reptiles and Misao, both stalked stealthily without notice and attacked when least expected, except her attacks were small questions that left him curious and strangely light feeling, not dead.
#38 - Snow
Her feet danced around delightfully in the blanket of white while Aoshi watched her, mesmerized by the childish yet intricate steps.
#39 - Solid
He was her rock, thick in the head as one and you could depend on him to not fall apart (again).
#40 - Spring
“We made it in time!” she declared, looking fondly as Aoshi-sama started to get new resting places for Han’nya, Beshimi, Hyotoko, and Shikijo.
#41 - Stable
She would look wary sometimes, trying to convince herself that Aoshi-sama was okay.
#42 - Strange
After many hours of contemplation of whether or not she was a child or a woman, he decided that she was just…her interesting self.
#43 - Summer
The cicadas chirped in the heat coming down on Kyoto, and as Misao lay on the porch dying, she thought grumpily about her Aoshi-sama meditating in the cool temple (the bastard).
#44 - Taboo
He stopped moments before capturing her lips as he asked, “Are you sure this is right?” -
She snorted, “After watching Jiya flirt with 15-year-old girls for years, do you really think it matters?”
#45 - Ugly
As Misao wailed out about being “too ugly” for love, Okon was quick to dismiss this with saying, “Now Misao-chan, I’m sure there’s someone around here who’d disagree.”
#46 - War
He had seen the true horror of war, and he hoped that she would never have to experience; a smile could not last forever.
#47 - Water
Her head froze when she looked into Aoshi-sama’s direction after hearing splashing, and slowly, she walked over, patting his back saying, “Aoshi-sama, I don’t think laundry will help you like Himura.”
#48 - Welcome
Everyone greeted him with a “Welcome back,” or, “Glad to have you back,”, but until he heard Misao’s cheery “Welcome home Aoshi-sama!”, he had never felt more accepted in his life.
#49 - Winter
The biting cold of the season had left her shivering, but as she wandered through the halls of Aoi-ya and saw Aoshi-sama asleep in his room, she couldn’t resist walking in and snuggling next to him.
#50 - Wood
He made his quiet way to the temple, the steps creaking with age, but when he entered, he was pleasantly surprised to see her sitting there, looking like she was waiting for him; he took a seat next to her, simply saying with a ghost of a smile, “I shall join you.”
