Pairing:Duo Maxwell and Relena Darlian-Peacecraft
Theme set:beta
Rating:PG (one bad word)
After establishing a peace after the Marimaia Rebellion in AC196, Relena Darlian disappears
completely, only to turn up three years later in London where a certain whiz-bang mechanic from
the colonies is working on classic race cars for a certain wealthy businessman and his lover. (Not
in chronological order and there are missing scenes)
#01 - Walking
Duo's jaw dropped as he recognized the blonde woman; it wasn't every day you saw a princess
walking into a garage to interview for a receptionist's position.
#02 - Waltz
"Did it occur to you that I don't want you waltzing into my new life?" Relena sputtered.
#03 - Wishes
"Everyone wishes things turned out differently," Duo sighed as Relena took his arm, "but we're
stuck with what happened."
#04 - Wonder
"I know Cat wondered what happened to you," Duo said.
#05 - Worry
Relena’s tone was bitter, "I doubt anyone was even worried; more than likely they were relieved I was gone.”
#06 - Whimsy
"And I suppose you always accost whatever woman catches your whimsy?"she retorted.
#07 - Waste/Wasteland
"I was taught to waste nothing that can be salvaged," Duo said quietly, "and yeah, that includes
sad-eyed ladies like you."
#08 - Whiskey and rum
A tally of the liquor case came up with three bottles of beer, two Guinness Extra Stout, whiskey
and rum - nothing Duo considered suitable for a lady, let alone an ex-princess.
#09 - War
Relena scowled, " I didn't play that large a part in the War, or at least a part that anyone considered important."
#10 - Weddings + #11 Birthday
"Other girls got invitations to birthday parties, bat mitzvahs, weddings; I got death threats."
#12 - Blessing
Duo had always considered living over the garage a mixed blessing; it meant he kept his beloved
cars safer than any security system but it also meant that anyone from the garage could bang on
his door at any time.
#13 - Bias
Quatre may have preferred silver for his racing Ferrari; but Duo had a certain bias towards a
mirror-finished black paint job.
#14 - Burning
"Lena's" cheeks were burning as she walked the gauntlet of whistles and appreciative
comments from the crew, holding her head high.
#15 - Breathing
Duo stopped breathing; Trowa was standing at the desk looking at Relena with recognition
dawning in his expression.
#16 - Breaking
Duo had a headache; he wanted to tell Quatre and Trowa but couldn't without breaking his word
to Lena.
#17 - Belief
"After all this time, she turns up /here/," Quatre shook his head. "It's beyond belief!"
#18 - Balloon
The bouquet of balloons tied to her chair brought the first real smile he'd seen since she arrived.
#19 - Balcony
"Only garage in London with a balcony," Duo boasted, "with a lovely view of the alley dumpster
and the back gardens of the townhouses on the next block."
#20 - Bane
The growing mound of paperwork was proving the bane of Duo's existence.
#21 - Quiet
"Quiet! Damn it! Everybody shut up!" Duo shouted as the flat wall screen replayed the top headline of the day: WAR CRIMINAL ZECHS MERQUISE CAPTURED ON MARS
#22 - Quirks
"We've got a full pit crew; well trained guys and gals, each with their own quirks and geniuses."
#23 - Question
"The main question will be," said Quatre, "Who has the jurisdiction for the trial; Earth or the colonies?
#24 - Quarrel
Trowa stepped in front of Relena. ""I am not going to quarrel with you, but you should
reconsider your decisions."
#25 - Quitting
"It seems I will be quitting my position, Mr. Winner," said Relena evenly, "and assuming a new
one - the defender of my brother."
#26 - Jump
"You're jumping into this without thinking!" Duo shouted.
#27 - Jester
"Joker's always the wild card," Duo whispered as he slipped her a pasteboard rectangle with a jester on it.
#28 - Jousting
The reporters from the different media outlets seemed to be verbally jousting with each other to
come up with the biggest headline.
#29 - Jewel
Duo sat out on his balcony and looked at the sky; the moon was a pale silver coin with the
jewels of the colonies circling around it.
#30 - Just
He had told Quatre that he and Hilde had been just friends, that's why he was willing to pick up
and come to Earth when Quatre developed a passion for Earthly sport's car racing.
#31 - Smirk
More than once, Duo would come to the owner's box to discuss strategy and find Quatre
blushing and Trowa smirking.
#32 - Sorrow
Relena was on the news casts again, as sorrowful in appearance as she had been during the war.
#33 - Stupidity
The press seemed divided as to whether her defense of her brother was nobility or stupidity.
#34 - Serenade
This time, Duo pitched an empty beer car at the tom cat, ending the night time serenade with a
yowl of pain.
#35 - Sarcasm
"Long time no see old buddy," said Duo sarcastically as Preventer Lieutenant Heero Yuy came in the garage.
#36 - Sordid
"You’ve showed up a day late and a dollar short, so just spare me the sordid details and tell me what the fuck you /really/ want?"
#37 - Soliloquy
Duo couldn't have been more surprised if Heero had burst into Shakespearian soliloquy.
#38 - Sojourn
Relena sputtered indignantly to find herself on the deck of Howard's old salvage ship "Sojourn."
#39 - Share
"I had a share in my brother's crimes, I should have a share in his punishment," Relena argued on
the stand.
#40 - Solitary
"You cannot blame one solitary man for the mistakes of at least three generations!"
#41 - Nowhere
Relena looked over the court room, but nowhere could she spot a friendly face.
#42 - Neutral
Duo's expression was strictly neutral as he faced Relena during the cross-examination.
#43 - Nuance
"Let's face it; subtle nuances are lost on the general public," Duo shrugged.
#44 - Near
"Relena," Duo shook his head, "you have a real knack for nearly getting killed because you're
defending a jackass."
#45 - Natural
"Isn't it natural that I would want to defend my brother?" she demanded.
#46 - Horizon
"True peace is always over the horizon, Relena, we just need to make do with the here and now."
#47 - Valiant
The press declared her effort valiant.
#48 - Virtuous
Duo thought it was disgusting how virtuous the colony representatives painted themselves as
they postured for the press at the trial.
#49 - Victory
They were watching the video screen in Howard's mess hall when the verdict was hailed as a
victory for the new peace.
#50 - Defeat
Duo could only hold Relena tight as she wept and wept in her defeat.
