It is amazing to see a dog's persistance in death and how we tried so hard not to let that happen with the slightest notion of life or survival. She hid behind a trunk most likely to die, but I pulled her out and made her drink as much as she could. She livened up and seemed better. I left for a shower and didn't leave my room again until my 10 year old cousin came running to me for help because the dog wouldn't budge and didn't look right. I went out and tried to make her drink. She wouldn't swallow. My aunt (her owner and pretty much mother) tried to, but both knew she didn't want to live. She was very ill. I triedopening her mouth and with the last effort she had she left it closed until she couldn't hold it any longer. I knew right then that she wanted to die and was ready.
Moa a 4 or 5 or 6 month old puppy died today around 10:30. I promised her biological mother that we would save her. Poor Kika. Moa was the only survivor of the pups she had. When the other two died she cried at their graves. She never left Moa's side. If any other dog came close she would attack. If humans were near her she was especially close. I have never seen that kind of mother in a dog. Moa was a lot older than a mother would stay with her pup. I don't think Kika knows yet. Maybe she does and that is why I can't find her. I think this may have been my first real veterinary experience of death. I researched about all the possibilities and knew that there was a chance she had the fatal one, but I hoped not because I knew there was nothing I could do. I'm sorry Kika that I could not keep my promise.
If you have a dog make sure you vaccinate him or her as SOON as you can. She was supposed to be vaccinated, but a lot of people under one roof can make many forget or put it off to later and then definately forget. I wish I knew she wasn't vaccinated sooner!! I'll miss you playful little Moa.
