Wow, who knew? ;) I have recently discovered that a few people I know actually follow F1, and I was dumbfounded - I mean it's a bunch of cars going round and round and round and round! The same track! Nothing ever changes, you don't see the drivers, you see the cars from a distance, and it's not the flashily edited filming either... Probably as a kid I was just excited because people around me were, and there was the prospect of crashes (I was a sensitive little girl).
So the film did make the racing a little more fleshy, gave it some blood and sweat. And of course it would be more exciting irl - I kind of hate sports on tv. You should *definitely* go see Rush! Right now, at the cinema.
F1 slash, huh? It's actually a bit funny, I've read racing slash. It was Nascar, and I didn't know any of the people so it was like original fic for me, but still. The Hunt/Lauda slash is kind of on the intellectual plane for me though, I don't fancy Daniel Brühl enough to want to see him bumping uglies. And I feel like a bad person for it but burn injuries (and many other injuries) squick me... But Lauda is such a cool character.
He is. And you have the FoeYay perspective with all the competing. Actually, I don't read much F1 slash-fic, but I LOVE the rl slashy factoids that get posted to that comm. Like this one: http://f1slash.livejournal.com/927285.html
