I watched the CMA awards last night, until I had to leave for work. Here's some of my thoughts. I'm not going to comment on everything, just the things that I really liked, or really disliked.
First, I was happy to see my hero Kristofferson get inducted into CMA's hall of fame. He really deserves it. You won't find a better writer or performer that this guy.Willie's words were well spoken, and his brief part of "For The Good Times" was great, but notas good as when Kris sings it.I didn't like Faith's brief part of "Help Me Make It Through The Night". In fact, I thought she ruined the song. It was great to hear Kris speak. I could listen to the man do so for hours, especially when he gets to talking about his bond he had with Cash. I thought the man was going to break down and cry when he was talking about those who had passed on, such as Cash and Waylon. I know he's lost some good friends over the last few years, and that I can imagine how hard it is for him to speak about it. I love Kris though, he's my hero. I remember watching a show about him, and it was very sad that only a small amount of Americans know about Kris' music anymore. His work is beautiful.
Gretchen Wilson has this mysterious power of being able to turn me on. In terms of appearance, she's not my type, but she can really turn me on.
That song that Toby and his daughter did was just plain awful. I dislike the guy more and more everyday.
I love Alan Jackson's new song, it may be my favorite of his. It's powerful. Last night was only the second time I've heard it, and I bought the track on Itunes today.
I thought Kenny did a good job with his performance, and seeing that he took home his first CMA, I'm glad he got album of the year. He's worked harder than some that have been more successful than him. I think the guy is one of the best modern country guys out of Nashville. I didn't care much for the music to "I Go Back", but the lyrics were prtty good, and something that people can relate to in general. He should write more than he does.
I was surprised that Keith Urban was awarded male vocalist of the year. I figured one of the tohers would win it. I'm not saying the guy can't sing or anything, I just didn't see him winning it. His mama was so proud she was crying.
On the other hand, Gretchen getting the horizon award was no shock to me at all. Damn, she's hot. I missed hearing what she said, I was having to leave for work, but it looked like she was shocked/crying.
That's all I'm going to write for now. One particular segment might lead to another entry sometime down the road.
