Tortured Logic
Jesus is rumored to have told his followers to love their enemies, to turn the other cheek, and to give to those who steal from them.
American churchgoers don't seem to have gotten the memo. A recent study found that the more a person attends church, the more likely they are to approve of the torture of terrorism suspects. White evangelical protestants turned out to be the most enthusiastic about torture, with 60% of them supporting it. Those least approving of torture were the people who were not affiliated with any religious organization.
I think I'll bring this up the next time somebody tries to tell me we need religion to have morality.
