In Praise of Women.

The way I figure it, every knight needs a minimum of three women: a short-term fling, a long-term conscience, and a muse.

Obviously the short-term fling will change periodically. That's why she's short term. You meet, you have to fun, you move on. No strings attached, no fear of commitment, and everyone stays happy. Plus it's easy to have those kinds of lovers if you're out questing for some random holy object, or mysterious animal, or legendary place, or whatever.

Then there's the long-term conscience. That's the one who is always around to nag you and keep an eye on you, whether you're sleeping with them or not. You might have more than one, I guess, but you probably won't like it. I suppose if you're going to be stupid enough to get married, this is the category where your wife falls too.

And then there's the muse. That one (or sometimes more) special woman who's a goddess in your eyes. The one whose every bidding you'll do, not matter what it is, because she's more than just another member of the fairer sex. She's the one who is so good, or sweet, or pure, or something that you're actually not worthy of her, but you want to be. Usually not someone you're trying to sleep with, as a general rule.

Well, I seem to have those last two categories pretty well covered. Got to work on that first one.
