Note to Self: From now on, use school's internet for downloading Torchwood. Takes 2 1/2 hours instead of 5.
And now, on to the review!
Ianto
Each week I don't think I can love him anymore, and each week I am proven wrong. Oh Ianto! How I love you, let me count the ways...
1. Better looking every week. Suits don't really do it for me, but there's something about that waistcoat...
2. The continuation of having the greatest one-liners, "We could release a single." and the best comic delivery, "Do I show off?" "Just a bit."
3. The cat who's got the canary smile on his face in response to Tosh's "We're all sad and single."
4. Badass Ianto? I reeeally should not have been as turned by that as I was.
5. Well, there are lots more, but I don't want to bore you.
Tosh
You and Ianto must be taking the same vitamins cause you get sexier every week too! But honey, I thought we were over pining for Owen? It's okay girl! He loves you and he'll come around. Or, he'll continue to be a dumbass and you'll find some super sexy bloke who'll worship and adore you the way you should be. Either way, you win!
Owen
Dude...see above? Don't be a dumbass.
I am starting to get used to compassionate Owen. It's kind of freaking me out. I like it though. I'm also really starting to appreciate Burn's acting ability. I spent last year being to annoyed with the character of Owen to really appreciate him. He was always such a sweet cutie in interviews though, and now he gets to let some of that through in his character. And I can't wait to see him next week!
Rhys
Love him. LOVE him! Did I mention I love him? It was great to finally see him in more than just the role of the faithful, naive boyfriend. And I adored the scene where he confronts Gwen about her behavior. How she treats him and what she seems to think of him.
"Why are you marrying me Gwen? Am I just a habit you can't be asked to break?"
I almost stood up and cheered. You go Rhys! In fact, the only thing better than watching him standing up to Gwen was watching him stand up to Jack. I think in many ways, for all his bravado, Rhys is the man Jack wants to be. He's heroic for no other reason than that it's his nature. Not because he's traveled in time or from way in the future or immortal. Just cause he's a good man and it's the right thing to do. I think Jack is incredibly jealous of that.
And finally, cause I know it's on people's minds...
Jack/Ianto vs Jack/Gwen
I know many of us read the spoilers that were put out by a particular person last week that had everyone defensive and up in arms, but I saw very little of what they were complaining about. We continue on with the development of the Jack/Ianto relationship (they just look more and more comfortable with each other every week), and finally, FINALLY! Gwen appears to be realizing what she has in Rhys. I only hope that this is the beginning of a trend. The characters are great together and the actress and actor have wonderful screen chemistry. I was totally engaged in the fight they had in their apartment.
And Jack's reaction? (or over-reaction. Sorry Barrowman, you were a tad over the top tonight at times. Still love you though) For me it feels like Jack is just really upset that he seems to be losing control of his team. If he caves to Gwen who else is he going to have cave to? I'll admit to being slightly put off by the bit toward the end where Gwen says she wouldn't remember this life (if she were retconned) and Jack Says "well I would" rather vehemently, but it was done in front of everyone and Ianto didn't seemed bothered by it so why should I? His expression was more of a "well that was intense" kind of thing. And remember, Jack has made a HUGE commitment by choosing to stay with his team over traveling with the Doctor. He's making an effort to put down some roots and these people are becoming his family. The idea that he could make himself that vulnerable only to have them leave him would scare the shit out of someone like Jack.
And having now seen the episode I will say, that will teach me to read spoilers by people who clearly want to start shipper wars. All that worry wasted.
*smacks self on wrist*
So, overall...
"I wasn't suggesting (guns) blazing, just waving."
"Guess who'll have to look after it in the meantime?"
"This is very homoerotic."
"Tell me exactly how we use it to arm ourselves against the future?" "We could always hide behind it."
"I'm not leaving you with all these sexy young men."
"Better stock up on plankton then."
"Just wish you woulda been uglier."
Brilliant.
Next Weeks Ep: Okay, I'm a total spoiler whore so I already knew a lot of that was gonna happen, but even with everything I'd heard...WTF? You know, not everyone shares my dysfunction. Way to give away the plot twist guys!
On the up side, it looks awesome!
