Ouch.

I have tonsillitis and I blame Tobias. I’m sure its some kind of sympathy-infection resulting from all the posts about his tonsillectomy. Damn you Tobias! But now I have sweet sweet pain killers and it no longer feels like I’ve been swallowing mouthfuls of knives, scissors and broken glass, so I'm happy.

Did you make sure it isn't strep throat?

I still feel like I'm swallowing knives.

I'm starting to feel a little better. Last night I was thinking that I would drive home today and at least do some paper work while I recovered. Then, I woke up this morning sober after the pain killers had disappated and I realized that, no, I'm not going anywhere.

Maybe I'll take a picture of my throat today so you can feel better about yours. ;-)

Sorry you have tonsillitis. I hope that is all it is. :-/ Do make sure to rule out strep since it can damage your heart.

The doc seemed pretty sure it was tonsillitis... do doctors regularly mistake strep for tonsillitis? should I be worried about this?

Hope you start feeling better soon. I know it's no fun, but hopefully it'll mean an end to all these infections you've been struggling with.

Did they give you antibiotics?

The doc should have done a throat culture. The quick test for Strep A is done in the office. They swap your tonsils with a big Q-tip and then use that to do a quick 5 minute test.

yup, I'm taking antibiotics and feeling better already, even when the pain killers wear off. She didn't do a strep test, and seemed very certain of her diagnosis. but as i've said, my confidence in the circumspection of medical professionals here is fairly low, so I'm not very confident in her opinion after looking at my throat for a few seconds...

what do they give you for strep?

Antibiotics. ;-)

Tiz why I asked what they gave you. Just make sure to take the whole prescription bla bla bla.

Tonsillitis looks basically the same as strep when it is early on, but it is good to know if you have it. There were a few times that I tested negative for Strep A, but I wish I had done the full antigen test because I probably had Strep C.

Hope you get better!
