"You play the violin(?)"
The shy Russian is taken aback, the legendary Jim Kirk is talking to him. Once over that, Pavel wonders if that needed an answer; he is holding his violin case so tightly his knuckles have gone white.
He nods quickly, biting down on his lip.
"You going to practise?" If Jim carries on with his Q&A Pavel's going to have no bottom lip. "Can I- listen?"
"Okay Keptin," Pavel decides.
"Y'know kid, you don't have to call me captain. I'm only captain on the field."
Pavel nods his understanding, and then they're in Pavel's room; Jim sprawled out on his bed, waiting, he doesn't push; waits until Pavel is ready, doesn't say a word, not while he plays, or even when he finishes.
Pavel looks at him expectantly, but Jim only licks his lips. Pavel's eyes fall to the floor, teeth embedded into his bottom lip; insecurity personified.
"Hey," Pavel looks up, "That was awesome!"
But Pavel isn't having any of it. "I'm sorry Keptin, sorry Jim, sorry!"
"Hey, you have nothing to be sorry for," Jim jumps up aiming to scoop Pavel into a much needed, much deserved hug. When Pavel flinches, Jim's heart breaks.
