He’s from Q branch, Bond thinks. He works under Q as some sort of tester, reviewer - a maths boffin that takes all the results from field tests and passes them on to Q, who will then turn that data into a meaningful assessment that often results in changes being made to the item in question before it’s despatched to the double o’s. Bond rubs his head. It hurts, and not just from trying to recall that man and his job.

Bond’s sure he’s passed the man on one of his many trips to Q branch. He thinks he passed him recently too, very recently in fact, carrying that drink that Q is now nursing in his hand, when he had been distracted by Miss Moneypenny’s dress with its teasing breast.

Bond began to wonder how distracted he’d been. Had he been so distracted for so long that he had not seen what was so painfully obvious to so many; Q liked him. Liked him so much it had forced him to leave the party early, sulking. He rubbed his head again.

According to them, Bond had been the first to run after the quartermaster, but that was clearly wrong. They were probably wrong when they also claimed Bond was the only one who could Q back to the party.

Q seemed pretty comfortable, although at an awkward angle, talking to the mystery man. With the music from the party now a dull thud, and his head following suit, Bond decided not to give that man any more thought. He couldn’t help notice the line of bottles in front of the pair of them. They had been out here for some time, he deduces. How distracted had he been?

The cold wind delivers a punching blow to his face, as Q gives him one to the heart. Fear and panic attack him all at once and he stands motionless for so long after he sees Q lean and lightly nip the mystery man’s lips. Although Q pulls back first, Bond cannot leave the thoughts that Q also started it.

He tries to will his mind to forget. He could easily turn back to the party and leave Q and his subordinate to their exclusive party. He could ignore that pain of jealous in his heart.

His feet betray him, and deep down he knows that jealous feeling won’t leave. He wants to rip that man from Q’s lips, even though they aren’t attached anymore. Q is obviously very happy; Bond can see him grin.

Bond can see him clearly now, given that he’s almost upon the two of them now. Then Bond is punching him; hitting hard in the face repeatedly, while all Q can do is stand, silence and still, too stunned to even think.

"Bond," he yells.

Bond hears his name as he rains down the blows into the maths genius’ face. Twice. Three times more.

"James!" Bond hears his name and stops this time. Something about hearing Q scream out James makes me stop and stand.

His fists, knuckles, are covered in blood. The same blood that’s running down Q lover’s face. Bond lets out a laboured breath or two, and turns to face Q, who is the very definition of shock.

Q turns slowly to look upon his lover. Bloody and bruised by the raging jealous hurricane that is James Bond.

Bond leaves after signing, a million thoughts now cloud his head. At least the dull thudding of music and the headache is gone, he thinks absently.

"Go after him," his lover chokes out, bloody bits spitting out.

Q doesn’t know what to do, what to say. And as that wind blows unkind with its relentlessness, just like Bond was moments before, Q thinks he’s never felt so cold.
