Snow. He missed snow. Of all the things he missed about Jersey, he missed snow the most.
Danny sighed as he looked out over the beach, wishing that somehow, by some miracle, snow would start falling in Hawaii. He had tried his best to talk Steve into going to Jersey, or at least to a slightly colder climate, for the holidays, but his boyfriend had vetoed the idea.
Steve didn't miss cold weather. He didn't miss things like snowball fights, and making a Frosty the snowman in the front yard. He didn't miss sitting down by a crackling fire in the glow of the lights from a Christmas tree and sipping hot chocolate.
He didn't miss feeling the numbness fade from his fingers as he stretched out his hands towards the fireplace. He didn't miss any of those things, because he had never experienced them. Steve had never had what Danny considered to be a "real" Christmas.
Danny sighed softly, thinking longingly of the snow that had always fallen in Jersey at Christmas, and would more than likely fall again this year -- without him being there to see it. The same old Lang Syne for everyone who still lived there -- but heat and scorching sunshine for him.
No snowball fights. No snowman. No cold nights for cuddling. Just sun, sand, and surf.
He wanted to give Steve the kind of Christmas he'd always had as a child, and that he'd had when he and his ex-wife had been happy together. He wanted to spend a Christmas at home in Jersey with the man he loved, a Christmas that would remind him of old times.
Only it wouldn't be like old times -- it would be better, because he would be with Steve. Danny sighed again, shaking his head and closing his eyes. I wasn't meant to be. He and Steve would never spend that kind of Christmas together. They'd always be here.
It took him a moment to realize that someone was standing in front of him. He opened his eyes to see Steve looking down at him, holding something out to him with a smile. Danny raised a brow in question, taking what looked like two plane tickets from Steve's hand.
Two tickets, he realized. Plane tickets to Jersey. For Christmas. He would spend the holidays having snowball fights and drinking hot chocolate with Steve. The kind of Christmas he loved, the kind of Christmas that he wanted to spend with the person closest to his heart.
"Merry Christmas," he whispered as Steve pulled him into a warm, enveloping hug.
"Merry Christmas, babe," Steve murmured in answer, a split second before their lips met.
