In the room 205, Duke MacGahan was looking for a job by reading the newspaper and searching on internet. He hoped he could find a job while he was studying for the next coming bar exam.
The door was knocked. Duke wondered who it could be. The man walked to open the door.
David stood in front of him. He said
“I’ve heard from the landlady, you’re back.”
“Well as you see.” Duke paused then asked “Would you like some tea?”
“That’d be great.”
Ten minute later. Two men sit on the old sofa in Duke’s room. David drank the tea Duke made before started the conversation.
“How’s the job? Do you find it?”
“No.” replied Duke. He didn’t drink his tea.
“I see”
Duke sighed. “It’d be difficult to find some jobs around these days. It’d be harder if you study law, but you haven’t passed the bar exam yet.”
“How about a part-time job? They don’t need any degrees.”
“I think so. I’m looking for that, but around our local area seems don’t need new part-time workers.”
“Don’t give up Duke. It must be a suitable job for you.” David had no idea what he should say to cheer Duke up. This was what he could do.
“I know… I won’t give it up anymore.” Duke smiled a little bit “Because I’ve changed.”
“Glad to hear that.” David smiled back.
“Because your words saved me and make me continue moving on.”
“Huh? Did I hear you said something?” David felt he heard Duke’s whisper. It could be his misunderstanding. Duke quickly shook his head.
“No. Nothing.” Duke changed the topic. “David, would you like to have dinner here? It’s almost night now. I’ve some food from the landlady.”
“Sounds good.” David promptly accepted the invite. “Actually, I’m bad at the cooking. I always rely on the restaurants or some quick-meal.”
“I see. Then shall we eat?”
“Sure.”
