does the media encourage young girls to conform to the image of being thin/pretty

What messages would a young girl be receiving while watching a TV show/movie/music video? How would she react to them?

Does it work to anyone's advantage to have girls thinking that they need to look a certain way? ie. Calvin Klein

How big an influence is the media compared to family and/or peers?

Would girls who are actually influenced by the media impressionable enough so that they would have reached the same conclusion from any other source anyway?

Is wanting to look thin/pretty such a horrible thing as everyone seems to think?

If all else fails, write an essay on what a bad topic that is. :)
