forthcoming

I write short fiction seldom, but in the past few weeks, I've written (and sold!) a story and a half.

The half story is my share of "The Vital Importance of the Superficial." The other half of the story was written by Ellen Kushner, and the whole thing will appear in the forthcoming anthology Queen Victoria's Book of Spells: Tales of Gaslight Fantasy, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, for Tor Books. To say I am chuffed is putting it very mildly indeed. Ellen asked me to collaborate with her and the experience brought back all kinds of great memories of the letter games we played during summers when we were in college.

The whole story is "The Language of Flowers," in Ekaterina Sedia's forthcoming anthology Wilful Impropriety, from Constable & Robinson in the UK, and Running Press in the US. I am thrilled to be in this collection. Writing "The Language of Flowers" gave me fresh insight into the phrase "I'm having almost too much fun."
