Listen, you stupid owners

If you let this NHL season die because you're unable to split the difference with the players on this salary cap (which would be about $3.5-$4 million per team), you're penny wise and pound foolish. Or maybe just foolish all around.

The players have already basically caved in to everything you've demanded. Some players are even upset at the union. If you can't make a profit at $45 million a year for a cap, you're all idiots.

Just bear this in mind: the fans will care about not seeing Mario Lemieux or Steve Yzerman again. The fans pay the big bucks to watch Jarome Iginla and Joe Thornton, not Harley Hotchkiss and Jeremy Jacobs. Owners, you are replaceable--and there are big businessmen in Europe ready to replace you at a moment's notice.

Would it kill you to bend a little bit? Would it kill you to let the union try to save some face? Don't be stupid. Make this work. Act in good faith for a change.
