Summary: A study of Allen Walker as seen through the D. Gray-Man timeline. Simple, hmm?
-Childhood-
26 - Hands
He knows that he is an abomination-his parents told him so-but the kind hands clasped around his own scatters those words like wisps of paper in the wind.
42 - Bell
That winter, the tinkling of sleigh bells stifles beneath the low, long lament of his father’s funeral procession.
-Mourning-
01 - Snow
He stares at the snowflakes that melt on contact with his skin, trailing down warm cheeks like icy tears.
35 - Little
Allen doesn’t scream, doesn’t cry or sob or kick-but curls up by the granite headstone and waits for Mana to speak again.
04 - Judgment
“Won’t you become an exorcist?” says the second pair of hands, cold and hard but unflinching in their grip.
-The Walker-
20 - Prey
They think they’ve got him up to the moment that frightful claw rips apart their mindless shells.
24 - Collar
On the day of his departure for England, he forgets his coat, trips over his boots, and nearly chokes himself with his collar before stepping out the door.
46 - Milk
“Here kitty, kitty,” Allen purrs, pouring the contents of the bottle on the ground while keeping his eyes on the golden tail twitching in the pussycat’s mouth.
05 - Powder
‘Regeneration sure is convenient,’ muses Allen as Timcanpy reconstructs itself from a pile of broken pebbles.
28 - Last
Sadly enough, the last carriage he takes drops him off more than 1500 feet-vertically-from the gates of the Dark Religious Organization.
-Speedy Metabolism-
13 - Classified
Perhaps the problem was that Allen was inherently misleading-not quite human, yet not exactly Akuma, fake with smiles, but secret with tears, sporting the hair of an old man with the face of a young boy-well, whatever the reason, Jerry files him away as a poor starving waif a la Oliver Twist and resolves to treat him to all the gruel he could desire.
36 - Cherry
“...an apple pie, some fresh-baked scones, a cup of Earl Grey, mashed potatoes with gravy, bouillabaisse, potatoes au gratin, an ice cream sundae (with a cherry on top, if you please)...”
11 - Pearl
“...beef stew(in a large bowl), a roasted chicken, some black pearl layer cake, tortellini ala borsa, kushidango (half a dozen or more is fine), mapo tofu, calpaccho, meat pie, nashigoren...”
32 - Rice
“...and finally, a plate of curry rice,” Allen finishes triumphantly, not seeing the color drain from Jerry’s face.
-A City of Dolls-
18 - Staircase
There are so many steps and alleys here that he has since lost track of them all-he privately wonders if the people of Martel left the city because it was too much work to navigate.
25 - Circle
For a long while he passes by the same column over and over again, trying to find his way in the dark.
09 - Possession
Allen’s never read a love story but he wonders if this is what love is like: two souls holding on to each other so tightly that it doesn’t matter if the world crumbles to dust and ashes.
44 - Contact
He is beaten and broken and bloody, but that doesn’t stop him from dragging his fingers close around the miracle that will make Lala sing again.
41 - Music
The lullaby lingers long after the wind dies down.
-Intermission-
47 - Wild
‘You should never give robots coffee,’ Allen thinks darkly as Komurin whirls towards him with murderous purposeful intent.
03 - Brick
But the tranquilizer dart hits him neatly in the neck and Allen feels his body turning into a sack of bricks.
15 - Closet
...wait, were those Komui waiting for him behind that door?
10 - Bandage
For the first time in his life, Allen wishes he could just skip the bandages.
-Weakness-
02 - Child
Something seems off about the little girl with the pumpkin-head umbrella, but Allen fails to put his finger on it before Linali’s urgent cries call him to Miranda’s side.
07 - Trap
He barely has time to think before the Akuma are upon them both.
19 - Nail
She is an Akuma......no, a Noah...or perhaps a defective human child, who is warm when she hugs him but whose nails remain icy daggers against his flesh.
33 - Worn
Stop it, he thinks, mouth too dry to speak.
40 - Fold
The clocks disappear and the world starts spinning-and Allen closes his eyes, welcoming the escape of collapse.
-The Castle in the Woods-
31 - Time
He wonders if Lenalee is still waiting for him, and regrets that he didn’t apologize in a better way.
37 - Library
Allen’s never minded books, but this time they’re a little too close for comfort.
34 - Paint
Her lips, so perfectly shaped as to be painted, draws back in a sneer and Allen blinks; when he looks again, they are gone, replaced by bloodless skin stretched too thin over an inhuman face.
35 - Ache
Everything explodes in a shower of dust and mortar; the sound is deafening, and for a few seconds Allen has to concentrate to stop the ringing between his ears.
16 - Ash
The smoldering pile scatters soot to the winds and Allen pauses to watch them go, tiny specks waving farewell in the rain-kissed skies.
-Evolution-
49 - Mechanism
He tries to ignore the image reflected in the window, tries to ignore the soft clicking of gears in his left eye, tries to clear any ties of his curse to the Akuma and fails miserably, painfully, bitterly.
08 - Star
‘It’s just like an Akuma’s.’
43 - Sleep
Allen keeps his eyes open that night, not in fear of the monsters he might see, but of the one he might become.
-A Little Bit of Fun-
38 - Win
“Royal Straight Flush,” Allen says with a smile, but the unlucky players can’t help but squirm at the maniacal gleam in the young boy’s eyes.
22 - Trouble
“Hey, Allen, don't ya think you’ve paid them-”
“No.”
50 - Finale
For him, the game ends too quickly-yet again.
-Fade to Black-
39 - Loss
“Suman-” Allen starts to speak, and chokes in the sudden swarm of black butterflies.
29 - Scab
The Noah smiles at him beneath a halo of death: black crosses, like grave markers, bleed against his skull.
45 - Electricity
At first he feels nothing beyond a faint tickling sensation-but then his Innocence begins to spark and soon his whole body follows, convulsing in agony as the Tease plants its blessing on the fragile flesh of his heart.
21 - Backwards
How odd...Allen thought he was lying on the ground-but no, that can’t be right, because the world was falling further and further away...
48 - Expectation
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
-Revival-
17 - Definition
An Exorcist without his Innocence is as good as dead dog.
27 - Freedom
At last, he is free-free but for the shackles that bind him inexorably, unyieldingly to the fate of the Akuma.
06 - Grim
Two paths lie before him, but Allen only sees one-and even as it burns him, he embraces the flames and walks on, pulled by the call of his chains.
12 - Glass
He’s cracking and breaking apart at the edges, but doesn’t stop to pick up the pieces.
30 - Crown
At the end of the road he bows to the king and stands, ready to take his rightful place on the throne at last.
14 - Buttons
Someone notes the missing button on his coat and calls HQ for a replacement uniform, pronto.

Notes: Eh, #30’s supposed to refer to Allen renouncing part of his human side to accept his inner exorcist or whatnot...y’know what, just interpret it as you will, because goodness knows I’ve had a heck of a time working with the developments in 85. XP
I’m sorry to say this was kind of a rush job as I have to go on a long leave-of-absence soon...so I decided to just go with it and turn it in before my deadline expired. Heh.
