Oct 29, 2007 14:44

I know I said I would recap the Nightmare Mansion arc and I am....but as you may or may not have seen in the dedicated post, my copy of Too Scared to Sleep died over the weekend so I have offered to split the work with another recapper. I have started on book#3 in the arc but as I'm at work and the book is at home, I'm gonna do this one instead ( ( Read more... )

recapper: zippyladoodles, sweet valley twins, sophia rizzo, saint elizabeth of sweet valley

Wait, "Mum"? How bizarre. The UK editions never change "Mom" to "Mum" in the dialogue/narrative of the SV books. And I've seen this particular book advertised at the backs of other SV books as "Sarah's Dad and Sophia's Mom".

(It looks like the UK edition changed the title of Brooke and Her Rock Star Mom as well.)

How strange...hmm....do they think us Brits can't associate Mom with Mum on covers. Inside, they use mom so it's only on the cover...

Also, "cad" is a fairly common British word, meaning something along the lines of "rogue" or "bounder". It's usually associated with men who cheat on women.

What's a cad? Is this some American swear word I don't know?

I always thought "cad" was British. I don't know. But as I understand it, it's just an old-fashioned way of saying "jerk." And to me, it has this connotation of some 19th-century man who toys with a woman's affections and then breaks her heart. "Oh, the cad!" And, also, to me it's hysterical that Mrs. Rizzo doesn't speak English very well, but she knows "cad."

I really dislike the whole "We don't want our parents together..." storyline. Just seems so weird. But I never had to deal with stepsiblings, what do I know?

That Quakefield thing is possibly the dumbest thing ever. Alice just calls him up? Yeah, and I can get Derek Jeter on the phone anytime I want, too. We could possibly be related.

Sophia of course has a crush on Patrick
Clearly, she has excellent taste in men. ;P

Is this the U.S. version of the book? I don't know if there are different versions, but I remember reading this book and I REALLY remember the title being something different ...

I don't think that there is a different book, but the copy I have and the image I got from the Internet both say 'mum'not mom. maybe the crazy ghostwriters wrote another book following the same storyline but released it as a new book...

I have the US version, and the title says mom instead of mum. But everything else is the same.

I completely forgot the ridiculous ending to the Quakefield thing XD

Also, (this is really lame of me and I should stop thinking about SV so much) wasn't it Sarah who was good at art, not Sophia? *ducks rocks*

Nice recap though. I liked it ^^

Ok, the Quakefield thing was just ridiculous. Why does Jessica never have to face the consequences of the crap she pulls? She should have had to admit she made it all up.

Actually Steven says the same in this book. It was something like "only Jessica could make up an outrageous story like this and have it turn out to be true. Someone up there likes you and they have TERRIBLE taste!" Lol. I love Steven!!!!
