SVJH #8: Cheating on Anna

Oct 25, 2007 21:53

Okay, I knew the Junior High books had the annoying journal snippets like in Senior Year, but I didn't realize the whole book was written in first person narrative. To add to my disorientation, the narrator shifts every chapter, so if I start to babble incoherently (more than usual), I blame the first person-ness.

I feel kind of bad for Anna, but the whole A plot did seem a bit... idiotic ^^ I second your line about the grass!

Yeah, I was kind of on Anna's side, since she was the only person not acting like an idiot, right up until the end. Then I had to write her off, too. Very sad state of things.

How did Anna's brother die?

Um, car crash. He was hit by a drunk driver.

There sure are a lot of drunk drivers in a town with only two pubs. Kellys and The Shady Lady.

Bethel is tired of being compared to her perfect sister all the time, especially since she never seems to be able to measure up.
Sounds a lot like the one-book Maria plot in SVHSY ("Maria Who?").
The ghostwriters for SVJH and SVHSY seem to take a lot of pages out of each others' books...there are so many similarities between the new characters and the plots...

There are a lot of similarities. Actually, I want to know why they weren't all the same characters, since the premise for the series are kind of similar. It would only make sense that combining the two high schools in Senior Year would allow the characters to come across the kids they met in Junior High... but no, apparently not.

You're right...actually that would be a cool idea. Except for the fact that
SVH falls in the middle, and there's no trace of Anna/Tia, Salvador/Connor, Lacey/Melissa or Bethel/Maria in the classic Sweet Valley High...
Although I guess continuity isn't SV's strong point...

Bethel is such an unfortunate name. I suppose it was the worst one they could think of after Enid.

"and a friend like Elizabeth."

Arghh, kill me now. Please! I don't have a bossy, interfering best friend like Elizabeth! Oh, wait, yes I do, I'm saved :-D

"Or does Liz only fix things for one-shot characters?"

I think so. Either that or she fixes things then they end up dead!

I never read any of these books, so correct me if I'm wrong, but they are, what, 14/15 years old? They act like they are planning on marriage or something. Meh!

Junior high school goes from grades 7-9, so yeah, they're supposed to be around 14 or so. And it always amuses me how much dating action goes on between these kids. I mean, I know kids that age do date on occasion, but it's not every kid, and every book. Geez.

Hee! I kind of feel the same way about SVJH. Although I'm pretty sure Salvador and Anna are their way of saying "Look! We can have not-blonde characters, too!"

they get around this loophole by making all the minorities date each other.
