SVT #36 Mary is Missing

For once, a title that makes sense and a plot that is relatively decent, although entrenched firmly within young adult fiction. Well done SVT!

I can't decide if this book is lame or awesome. I mean, on the one hand, Mary is incredibly boring and the characters behave sensibly regarding the law. On the other hand, Ellen's girlcrush! Jess and Lila calling up Bruce and giggling at him! I think I want a book that just collects the best moments of the Unicorns.

The book that follows is, I think, "The War Between the Twins", and it's pretty terrible. I loved it.

Oh yes. I'll be covering that one soon. I never understood why the school newspaper was so friggin important in SVT, so I'm going to be having loads of fun with that.

Ice cream parties? Oh, totally. You go to a party with a buffet featuring vats of different flavors of ice cream, tubs of chocolate sauce, and bowls of toppings. Then, you make your own sundae and...um...stand around and eat it. Along with everyone else who's eating their own sundaes. It's pretty much awesome.

What a fun recap! I'm loving your SVT writeups.

Are you...are you serious? Please say you're serious. Okay, hold on. I'm moving to America.

No, for real. I'm 100% serious. Show me an American who's never been to an ice cream party, and I'll show you a liar.

Oh my Lord. That sounds like heaven.
Entire VATS of icecream? I was in heaven with a pint of Haagen Dazs or Ben & Jerry's in England. Now I'm in NZ and we don't have those brands. It's very sad and lonely.
I'm so going to throw an ice cream party!

Icon of me after icecream party (mwahahaha) :)

It's weird - I remember everything in this book, but I don't remember this book at all. Does that even make sense?

Great recap. And kudos for making the truest statement I have ever heard about SVT:

I would never choose Ellen for anything ever.

I have to put on my library hat for a moment and say that newspapers takes MONTHS to be put into microfilm, not mere days. But of course, this is Sweet Valley where nothing makes sense.

I suppose that's why they had the newspaper be a week old. That one week would make all the difference between ridiculous and possibly plausible.

Ditto!! Where did she go in SVH? She wasn't in it was she?

Me too. She's stupid, nervous and uninteresting. I used to have a friend like Ellen. We were only friends because we lived two doors away. Thankfully she moved away when I was seven and we never saw each other again. Hurray!
