SVH Senior Year #25: Straight Up

Oct 04, 2007 14:31

Thus begins another sojourn into another completely randomly titled Senior Year book. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not finding their obvious attempts to use teenage colloquialisms making these books any cooler. But what do I know? I'm not really their target audience anymore.

Great recap. You're making me want to read these books again. ^_^ Why Ken got nominated to be a judge confused me. After all, he wasn't even half a model student throughout the first books. And I think there are actually two Jade Wu's at the school. The first Jade's family moved back to China after the earthquake and the second Jade took her spot on the cheerleading squad. ^_^

Well, according to Maria, Ken was only nominated to judge because Sweet Valley places an absurd priority on football and he's the current quarterback. Which... actually sounds about right.

Two Jades? Hmm, that makes a lot more sense than any other theory. I'll buy it!

Maria was probably spot on about that one. ^_^

Fantastic recap. Does anyone else feel like drinking after reading the book? I think it was all the Tia Maria's!

Oooh, I'll bet that's how they got their names. We know all the writers were drunk when writing, after all.

Jade's dad, after years of not so much as making a phone call, drops by unannounced.
He must've been in orbit where days are actually years, because he was around when they were juniors. :D

Tia and Maria fight all through drama class, where Jessica is forced to play peacekeeper.
Jessica. Peacemaker. These words do not go together.

Maybe Jade's dad got caught in the Sweet Valley space-time continuum somewhere along the way.

You know things are bad when Jessica's peacemaker...

That scholarship seemed designed to sow discord and hatred *wonders about Ms Senate's motivations* although the message seemed kind of lame. Can't people try and reconcile their friendships with their ambitions, rather than having to pick one? *should stop analysing Sweet Valley's ethics*

Oooh, will Will turn all crazy and stalk Ken? *hopes*

Jessica the peacemaker just cracked me up. Serves her right, having to calm someone else down like that. Awesome.

I don't know about stalker! Will, but he's pretty much always been crazy. I've got 26 and 27 on deck, so I guess we get to find out. ^_^

Seems a shame none of these valuable lessons are going to last till high school XD

Yay!

At home, Tia tells her parents all about the scholarship. Initially they're thrilled, until they hear about all the restrictions and requirements.
My father would be like, "Four year full ride? Fantastic! Quick, pick a school. I'll help you pack!"

And why would Jade help Jeremy and Jessica get back together? Doesn't that, like, completely go against her original plan?

And Jessica the peacemaker. *Shivers*

Hehehe, that's actually the reaction Tia's expecting. Her parents are mostly concerned that all of this is really really not what Tia has been planning to do after high school.

I have no idea why Jade helped out like that. It seems totally against character. Sadly, I don't have the book where that happens, so I guess the mystery will continue on.

Do you know what book it's in? We have a few SVHSY books at my library, I could investigate.
