SVH TV 2.01

May 24, 2010 20:33

I know that there's already a way awesomer recap, courtesy of Skittlebox(sorry Skittlebox for not attributing this correctly!), but I felt like mocking Sweet Valley and all of my books are locked up in storage.

The episode opens up at the beach with a guy surfing, the stereotypical image of California.

Liz is busy organizing a beach clean-up. Jessica comes to tempt her away first by saying that Liz has been saving the world all summer and the by saying the Sweet Valley Beach Olympics are coming up. Sweet Valley Beach Olympics = Save by the Bell's Malibu Sands 4th of July festivities without the beauty pageant.

Manny is adjusting a volleyball net...while the game is still going on and fantasizes that Enid = Bo Derek in 10. Manny has clearly been drinking too much because Enid <<<<<< Bo Derek.

New Bruce and Jessica have a little pissing contest about who will win the Beach Olympics. We find out that Winston is on Bruce's team and Enid is on Jessica's. Couldn't the budget have been increased so that only cool people could be on their teams?

Liz and Enid are taking a Seventeen quiz. Oh Seventeen, I remember when you gave me unrealistic hopes about teenage boys. I expected Lloyd Dobler and I ended with Logan Echolls (minus the inherent charm). We discover that Enid's idea of a romantic night is playing Yahtzee. Of course it is and I am sure that there's herbal tea and pedicures a-plenty too! Winston comes running up with the uber-dramatic (not!) announcement that Todd is coming back to Sweet Valley. Of course Todd calls Winston first.

At some ratty beach side place, Jessica is carbo loading on hot dogs and trying to convince Lila to compete in the Beach Olympics. Lila doesn't want to have her skin turn to leather and yet in the very next scene we see her sunning on the beach. Jess and Bruce bicker some more. Lila and Manny declare them to be in love.

Volleyball and Tug of war montage. Jessica has recruited a super tall girl to play and hooks up the end of her rope to the Jeep.

Team Wakefield meets up at the ratty beach place and in walks Todd. What is with the girly hair on the guys? The only one who looks halfway decent is Michael Perl. Liz and Todd talk. As usual the conversation is all about Liz. Todd has to be at the finals and she's glad that he's back even though he looks like he's 2 seconds away from jumping off a bridge (well in Sweet Valley's universe). Jess gloats to Bruce. Lila has sunburned feet and yells at Jessica about using S.P.F. two sunscreen. Jessica, for shame!

Enid and Todd talk. Enid is as blundering as usual. Manny continues to fantasize about Enid (this time as Mary Anne from Gilligan's Island).

Time for the final event, an obstacle course! Bruce and Jess banter some more. Jessica wins and is disqualified for cheating and then Bruce is disqualified for cheating.

Liz discovers that Todd is back because Toddles couldn't cut it on an actual team. It seems as if Todd has dropped out. Super smarty-pants Liz can't except that even though school will do nothing but confuse Todd for the rest of his days.

Lila's foot sunburn catches the eye of the lifeguard who reveals that he wants to be a foot doctor. Lila, run away! Do not get caught in Lifeguard Josh's foot fetish web!

Bruce and Jess banter and kiss. Can I just say that I prefer this Jess "with" Bruce than book Jess?

Liz and Todd talk some more. Liz says that she loves Todd and Todd says that she doesn't know him and that apparently the VT school's team was the end all be all of basketball. More than the NBA, Todd? Liz says that she knows what he's going through. Todd gets mad and calls her on her St. Liz-ing and says he won't be her charity case.

Episode ends at a beach bonfire (the writers seriously had to have gone down a list of beach cliches for this episode), Enid ignores Manny. Jessica spouts platitudes to Liz and questions her Hallmark card-ness. Jessica, you know that you only talk like a Hallmark card when you pretend to have learned something!
