Summary: Even Winston Egbert isn't always happy...

Winston Egbert couldn't remember a time when he hadn't had the hots for Todd Wilkins. Maybe way back when Todd had punched the daylights out of that kid who tried to steal Winston's lunch box, but some time between then and now, his feelings had morphed into... something boys weren't supposed to feel about other boys.

And somehow, Elizabeth Wakefield always managed to just get in the way when he would be about to try and get Todd to the side and confess his feelings.

Or at least, that seemed to happen depressingly often.

Winston couldn't really hate Elizabeth; as much as he wanted to, he had to admit to himself that Elizabeth was almost saintly, and Todd was really, really, hot. If Todd had been a bit less inclined to be stuck with one girl, he could have dated every girl in Sweet Valley High.

What really confused Winston, though, was that Todd also never seemed to mind touching him, or Winston's touches. A hand on the shoulder just a fraction of a second longer than it needed to be, bodies a little bit closer than two boys needed to stand when talking...

He leaned back against the driver's side window of his car and allowed his face to reflect something Winston rarely let show to the outside world: gloom.

Just a little while earlier, Winston had showed nothing but his usual clowny act when Todd broke the news about moving to Vermont. He'd hugged Elizabeth (confusing the poor girl; he'd take his amusement how he could) and given Todd the big ol' cheesy thumbs-up.

Two minutes later, he was at his car, brooding over Todd. And God damn it, was that Todd and Elizabeth going for a long walk on the beach?

Winston kicked the tire on his car in frustration. Sometimes it just didn't pay to be attracted to Todd Wilkins.
