SVH #4 Power Play (updated reissue c2008)
I’m sorry my recaps are always so long. Remember those English 101 comparison papers you had to write? I thought it might be fun to take the old school and 2008 reissue copies and compare them back to back, chapter by chapter. Little did I know what was getting into…

Except for added brand names and technology, it's still the same story )

:) I'm glad you did such a detailed recap. I feel like I've read the new version!...and you're right, it's kind of annoying. Although I like how they replaced some traditionally male authority figures with females. It seems like Robin loses a lot of weight in a short period of time. Remember kids, crash diets are bad!

....I think they actually managed to make the weight issue MORE offensive here. Wow.

As far as Winston wearing glasses....I thought he wore them in the "old-school" series too. By SVU he's switched to contact lenses - that's partially what gets him in trouble in "What Winston Saw."

...I can't believe they got rid of Phi Beta Alpha and replaced it with the "Beauties". That name just makes Jess look stupid!

Also, this is the book that I learned the word "blackball" from and promptly used that name for my new cat. Ah Blackball, what a great kitty you were!

I don't buy Jess being in a "beautification committee" unless it's to beautify herself.

I know, having a high school "sorority" always seemed a little fake to me too, but I'd still believe that in SV over this.

Power Play was the first SVH book I ever read, and I used to love it, so the new version just makes me sad. Boo especially to the cover!
