Well, after whining on in the comments the other week about North London charity shops being SVH-free zones, in my local one today I picked up not one, but two SVH books. What's more, they were 20p each, which makes me think that the dude who runs the shop read them and priced them according to their literary value. So, mystery donator of Highbury

It turns out to be a mechanical fault, and the plane has to make an emergency landing in New Orleans. Jessica deals with this in a typically squealy manner
I dunno, I haven't been a fan of the words "mechanical fault" or "emergency" either since I read The Sleepwalker. Fuck you, Robert Muchamore.
Oh yeah, we also learn that Lila has been seeing Bo since the previous summer vacation, which I believe leads us to the question as to why she was going home with John in the first place.
That summer vacation was before their 15th time through junior year, the encounter with John was in their 8th. Duh. :P
She turns on the TV and sees that Jess’s flight had to land in New Orleans.
Exactly how bad was this fault that it got on TV? Cause I'm picturing something like this *points to icon* which isn't exactly something to be jealous of. (Although knowing these girls, I wouldn't put it past Lila to be like, "Fuck the fact that she could have died - and pffft, that happens every second book, anyway - SHE GOT TO SIT NEXT TO RYMIT!!!!")
Or did it just get on TV because RyMit was on it?
And come to that, wouldn't there be a closer airport than New Orleans, which if I'm not mistaken is in Louisiana? Cause unless LA - NY flights fly across the bottom of the US and then up, as opposed to going straight across over Nevada, Utah, Colorado etc, that's kind of out of the way...
I love you for referencing Home Alone 2. Shenanigans from Kevin would have made this book so much better.
RyMitt confesses to Jessica that he’s going to New York to get engaged, something which he apparently has no control over. This is ridiculous.
Hey! Hey! A pop star can bring his record company great honour in one way: by striking a good match! And this could be the day!
His manager set up the engagement to a pop star called Dierdra La Monde as a PR stunt
Oh my God, I was right. *had forgotten most of Jessica/RyMit's plot*
she wins as the Twin Towers are taller than the Empire State Building. Damn, this book makes me feel old.
I read this book several months after 9/11, and I don't think that even occurred to me. *facepalm*
“I keep on forgetting that Americans come in every shape and color,” she thinks.
"You know what’s funny, though? When I’m with Juana I don’t think of her as black, just as a person."
Also, Jamaican =/= Hispanic. Between this and Louisiana being en route from LA to New York, I'm guessing geography wasn't this ghostie's best subject at school.
ETA: Also, the "shape" part is cracking my shit up. I'm picturing the Laestrans as this master race where everyone's a perfect size 6 (except maybe the Borat heavies.)
Lila is appalled that Princess Charlotte pretended to be her while wearing rubbish jeans.
Hee! I love you, Lila. <3
Did the ghostwriter even look into what the Plaza is like
Hey, they didn't look into where New Orleans or Jamaica are either. Some people don't have maps, you know?
