SVH #129, Cover Girls
Because Sweet Valley High admin wants their students to spend as little amount of time in their actual school building as possible, all of the juniors are spending two weeks doing an internship. Remember that the internship only last two weeks but everyone talks like the internship will take two years.
Jessica and Elizabeth are going to working at Flair, a super cool magazine in LA. Jessica is going to be a photography assistant but plans to becoming a world famous model. Jessica , no. First of all, you are only 5 foot 6 and your trim size six figure is probably way too chunky for the fashion world.
Liz is working for managing editor, Leona. Liz is just as unrealistic as Jess, thinking this job will skyrocket her to success.
Everyone’s else internship is boring and not as important as the twins. The biggest whiner is Todd, big shock there. He is pissed that he has to work at his dad’s big fancy company. He also can’t believe that he has to spend two whole weeks away from Liz. Oh the horror. Awesomely, though, Todd does bitch to Liz about the time that she forgot about him, ie cheated, when she was in London. Liz is all, let's change the subject, but I love that Liz is called out as a cheater. Todd's behavior goes downhill in the rest of the book but finally it is noted that Todd can't even go to the bathroom without Liz feeling deprieved and deciding that she needs a new man.
Also shocking, Jess is completely unprofessional and obnoxious at her job. She whines and complains that she actually has to do real work instead of being instantly recognized as an emerging top model. She is slacking off in the mail room, sleeping on the couch when she woken up by a kiss from the mail room clerk, Cameron. Jess decides that this is fine with her because Cameron is totally hot. Girls of the world, this is not fine. It is creepy behavior, especially if you are 16 and the guy is 20. How come no one in SV gets charged for statutory rape with all of the older guys around? They flirt and Jess bitches more about her job. Jessica quickly becomes enemies with the famous model, Simone, who mocks Jess for being fat and ugly.
Liz is very quickly turning into a mega bitch because of her job. She spends a shit load of money on new clothes and a hair cut, ditches her friends and Todd and is bitchy to Jess. Liz, the internship is only for two weeks, calm the hell down. Also, I dislike when characters are giving a defined trait, like being nice, and then that trait is dumped by the writers. We also find out that the publisher of the magazine is a total hottie and Liz vows to met him.
Jess is still scheming to become a model. She runs into Cameron again and eats part of his lunch because she forget hers, despite this she manages to hurt his feelings by not dating him because he is poor. Or is he?
Todd hates his mindless job at his dad’s company. Personally I love doing mindless work. The copy machine puts him over the edge and instead of kidnapping it and beating it to death in a field, he decides to go visit Liz. Of course, Liz is too busy to spend time with him so she sends him to go find Jessica. One thing that it is interesting is that both Jess and Todd continually express disgust about the other. Since we know that they had a secret affair, is this disgust real or a clever ruse to keep all unaware of their true feelings for each other? When Todd goes down to photography studio, he is discovered by the photographer, Quentin, as a being a total hunk. Before we know it, Todd is stripped down to a tiny bathing suit (Ew) and posing with the gorgeous model, Simone. This is how we know Todd is a douche, every girl in the book has mentioned that Simone is scary skinny, looks like a skeleton. Todd thinks she has a hot body.
Todd is convinced that he can be a model and quits his internship at his dad’s business. I’m sure that the school will think that modeling is perfect replacement for his internship.
Jessica continues to be a dumbass by stealing one of Quentin’s cameras. She and Lila go to the beach so that Lila can take top quality pictures of Jess and Jess can finally convince everyone she would make a great model. Sadly, Lila is swamped by a wave and the camera is ruined. Jess is pissed that Lila won’t pay for a new one, she’s got nerve if you ask me, Lila must get tired of being begged for money all of the time.
Jess is hoping that Quentin won’t even notice the camera is gone but of course he is throwing a fit when she comes in to work. Jess sneaks out to the mall room and calls Lila to beg for money. Guess who hears the whole thing, Cameron. The next day a camera mysteriously appears and Quentin thinks that Jess had it cleaned. I wonder who the secret benefactor could be?
Liz descends further into bitchiness, ignoring her friends and dissing their internships. Her friends even take two buses to get to LA and then Liz ditches them to work late. She gets a taste of her own medicine when Leona tells her that Liz’s big idea, having reader written columns, is the suck and won’t be in the magazine. Liz is sad.
Liz is even sadder when Todd cancelled their date to model/run about against Simone. Too bad her friends hate her guts or she would have someone to spend time with.
Jess decides to move on with her plan to be a top model. She sneaks into the dark room with Quentin and makes out with him. At first he thinks she is Simone (they’re having a fling) but when he realizes he doesn’t know who it is, he seems ok with it and continues the making out. Jess doesn’t think he is a good kisser but vows to do anything to further her career. Jess is kinda gross.
Somehow, even though the camera got wet, Jess was able to get her pictures developed. She goes to the mail room and founds Cameron staring at them all creepy like. He tells her that she is hot but then goes into this whole bitter rant about her being shallow and stuff. Whatever dude, I don’t get moral advice from guys who want to date underage girls. I agree with Jess that he has no right to judge her, though of corse Jess is shallow and materialistic.
Liz continues to be sad when she is forced by her boss to attend a industry party and she has no date. And she wants to hang out with her friends who hate her guts. Again, the stupid internship last two weeks, why is it so horrible to devote yourself to it for that period of time and then go back to your normal social life?
Quentin figures out that Jess was the girl making out with her in the dark room. She shows him her pictures and he is totally smitten. They agree to go on a date and I just want to know, who is using whom?
Cameron drops off a package for Jess and randomly grabs her and kisses her. I think this guy is psycho. Of course he asks her out for the same day as Quentin and Jess is too dazed by lust to say no. I’m sure whacky highjinks will occur.
Liz is the saddest of all when she goes to the photography studio to make up with Todd only to find him making out with Simone. Of course, she runs away crying.
I do hope that someone owns 130, it looks quite snarkable, especially the part where Todd and Simone go to a nightclub and Todd feels like he is living on the edge.
