Sweet Valley University #9: Sorority Scandal

I picked this one for the title. I mean, how can it not be awesome when it’s about a scandal at a sorority!? Also, the back mentions Lila. Lila and Bruce. That’s right, we find out how their relationship kinda sorta begins in this book. Like any good love story, there’s a plane crash involved!

Creepy guy in a wheelchair - way to go, Sweet Valley, making all the baddies have (fake) handicaps/deformities. You're not stereotyping at all... dickheads!

Mike is the man Steven accidentally shot and crippled that time.
Did Steve get any jail time for that? Was there a court case?

The racism storyline is interesting. But it makes me wonder... where are the Latinos in Sweet Valley? This is California, isn't it? Latinos make good storylines, too. Even better ones, perhaps.

That southern skank is DIM! (Love the alliteration; well done.)

Thanks for the recap, and have a lovely day! :-)

No, I don't think so. Jessica would hide at Steven/Billie's apartment and one day Mike went looking for her and Steven and he scuffled and the gun went off. Steven didn't intend to shoot him.

Yeah that's a good question. I think they can only do one minority at a time.

I do think there was a couple of storylines in the SVH books with Latinos experiencing racism. But again since SV only had about five people of different races, maybe the writers were afraid that they would overwhelm the readers by mentioning more than one person of color per book. Good recap.

Didn't Steven have to live with Mike to help him or something as his punishment?

I seem to remember them having a huge fight and Steve storming off and Mike getting caught in a fire and then Steve rescuing him.

I love SVU SO MUCH.

i will have to find my "Bruce writes a screenplay that gets stolen by his professor who then poisons him" book at home. I remember loving that one.

Bruce and Lila have a nice moment of liking each other. Then it’s ruined when Bruce starts leading with his trusty compass, only to bring them right back to the plane crash site. Lila berates him for being really stupid. And then Bruce takes off alone.
Weren't they walking down a mountain? And they didn't notice they'd walked back UP? o_O

Yeah it was pretty stupid. The writer said Bruce had a compass and Lila was following him even though she thought he was going the wrong way. But that still makes it hard to believe they walked right up to the wreckage completely oblivious. I mean, up instead of down? Away from the smoking ruins instead of back to them? It doesn't seem like it'd be hard.

God, how ridiculous - a would-be rapist (Bruce) is going out with an almost-rpaed girl? (Lila) Yeah, that would happen in real life. Oh Sweet Valley, you've done it again.
