Apr 08, 2008 22:53

So this is Barnyard Battle. With 1992 era computers and a Pioneer farm. And if you're anticipating some kind of savage pitchfork battle, you'll be disappointed. But if you're expecting slapstick comedy involving Lila (twice!) you'll be thrilled!

Liz suggests a computer (“I can do the Sixers layout and all my reports for school on it!”)
Or you can do none of that and waste all your time bitching about Sweet Valley High, like I do! Computers, ain't they grant?

Ginny Lu actually was in one other book. I swear I picture her as Brandine from the Simpsons.

I'm glad to see this book reviewed...I couldn't remember the title, but I always liked it as a kid. I thought that trip sounded like fun, really, but then, I was even dorkier than Elizabeth. And I would've cut a bitch if I had to in order to get horse-feeding duty. Horsies rock. *is 12*

I still don't understand, though, that if there was a storm coming, why wouldn't the person in charge tell Elizabeth to pick another horse, because Slug (WTF kind of a name is that anyway?) freaks out at thunder?!

No, that was Gin-Yung Suh. Ginny Lu isn't actually Asian at all (though I thought she was too at first.) "Ginny Lu" is her first name - why they didn't just spell it "Ginny Lou", I don't know.

Ginny Lu Culpepper - think she's from Oklahoma or something - she turns up in an earlier book - Out of Place - and all the kids ('cept Liz - natch) make fun of her for being a hick

... ok, I'm weirdly relieved someone else thought that too. I think it's Jess's super-serious scary expression that makes it.

I really do not remember this book. I think by the time these later ones were written I had outgrown SVT and moved on to SVH. I thought I was so mature reading about people in high school.

Oh, question! Was there a point in his book where they were making make0up from berries or did I hallucinate that?

You're not crazy! Ellen mentions that Ms Shepard showed her how to use berries as makeup when the Unicorns are talking about her at Caseys. It makes Janet decide that she really must be a cool teacher - she talked about makeup during class!
