There are only 365 days in a year, if we include summer. And there are 143 Sweet Valley High books (and this does NOT include special editions). That means each book should take about two and a half days. So Todd should've been gone for about 88 days. (Almost three months.)
Howev, if we include special editions is over 180 books, so not even 2 days a book. So that would be 69 days, or just over two months.
Some of that makes sense, because there are things going on with other characters that might be able to overlap with what the twins are doing, except that I refuse to believe that Liz originally dated Todd as long as she was dating Jeffrey. I REFUSE.
(Also, it would never work because there are always two-parties-in-two-weekends going on in every book.)
I know. It's too bad we haven't been keeping track of how long each book takes (and how many parties there are) so we can figure out exactly how many days there are in a Sweet Valley Year. Which I assume is like a year on another planet and takes a lot longer.
Oh God, I was just looking up Caitlin on Wikipedia (and coming up with nothing) and I just realized that in five years, the next generation will be snarking on Fearless. Noooo, not Fearless! Until the ghostwriter took over, it was PERFECT, I tells ya! PERFECT! Or CLOSE ENOUGH.
Uh...wait, I had a point. Right. Julian was hot. The end.
Well, we at least know that there was a year between "The Evil Twin" and "The Return of the Evil Twin," due to Francine's blatant belief that Sweet Valley readers are idiots. And I think that "A Night to Remember" and "The Evil Twin" miniseries spanned over 6 months. So that's 18 months in what, 8 books? For shame, Francine. For shame.
I've been trying to keep track of dances and parties by putting a "dance!" or a "party!" tag on every recap I do. I haven't been doing time though but I think I'll start. Maybe every recap needs a chart:
# of parties: X # of dances: Y # of days/weeks elapsed: Z # of cheating cheaters: R # of times Todd punches someone/someone gets pushed in a pool: T
For awhile we kept track of crying girls, and then we lost interest in that. I think every book has at least one party or a dance. I wonder which book has the most. I'd like to discover it.
And, uh, Todd's cheer is a metaphor for his connection to Sweet Valley despite the changes in his life.
And the fact that the team won because of it is a metaphor for how much they wuv him. God only knows what they think is so great about him, but this is Sweet Valley.
I figured it was still funny because it was an attempted rape off--no one actually gets raped. It's not like people in SV (except Lila) get upset when someone tries to rape them. It's a right of passage.
BWAH! I defy you to find me one instance when he was any one of these things!
Also, I don't believe Bruce suggested a tug-of-war. Not my Bruce. He'd suggest an attempted-rape-off or a I-can-buy-and-sell-you off. Whatever.
Does Todd's cheer have magical powers or something? I don't see how that made them win.

HOW LONG WAS HE GONE???? I'm going to say three months. I hate Sweet Valley Time (except Rape O'Clock).
