Greece Day 14 - Santorini airport

Well; this is it. We're at the airport awaiting our (theoretically) Noon flight. As Eric likes to say, the Greeks invented 'standard time'.
when questioned, he explained it in his biggest, broadest immitation of Greek speaking, complete with an accent.
You see ... it is like this. the Greeks give everything to the world ... the music, the food, the fine art ...
to the Italians, we taught the making of the pasta.
to the French, the art of the grape and the vine.
To all of Europe, we give music and the fine arts.
And to all ... we give the standard time. Usually about an hour behind the stated time.

*grin*

We've been sitting down reminiscing about the trip and making notes of little things we want to remember, be it sayings from the trip (I'll have the cake please, said at least once in nearly every taxi ride ... This jellyfish sting is really becoming a pain in the ass, said a few times when we had to find seating that I could manage for a lunch or dinner, we're in pompeii and it's volcano day!, said a few times while staring into the caldera upon which our hotel perched. Mostly just remembering the tidbits of the trip. One thing that really stands out to me is that it's the little moments that make up the trip - not the big grand views that we start with. It's things like coming up on a mournfully howling Santorini cat only to have it put on a fifteen-minute show with its dead prey as soon as we stopped to look ... a train of fourteen mules passing noisily underneath our window ... Greeks going by with megaphones in their vans, shouting into the streets while we wonder what's going on ... stopping on the beach to just stare at the absolute and astounding beauty all around us ... haggling successfully ... random acts of turtles ... laughing with the locals ... tasting many new wines. So many many perfect moments.

ooh! a moment to say that our plane just landed. We'll be running late, but perhaps not horribly so.

Anyway, although it is very sad to see this all come to a close, it is fun to remember delightful moments and little jokes we've shared over these weeks.
