The Darker Side : Serial Killer(s) AU

What happens when you turn a character from your favorite fandom into a serial killer? Disturbingly, sometimes very little. *eek* Some SKAUs are as simple and canon compliant as looking at a military, police or supernatural hunter character through a slightly different lens and asking "what if all those 'necessary' deaths are what (s)he's living ( Read more... )

I've never watched Dexter, but from what I know, I think an even more 'justified' serial killer was the perp of the week on one Law & Order SVU - she didn't just seek out 'bad guys' to kill, but let them come to her, so each individual kill was technically self defense. Then of course, they had to ruin the moral confusion by throwing in a completely unjustified and gruesome murder in her background. *pouts at no fun writers*

Still, if I ever wrote a serial killer AU, it would probably be McDanno and would have to have a scene of Danny going off on Kono for asking why they don't just let the 'Dexter' perp do them a favor. "Are you serious? You think this guy is driven to fix the errors of the justice system, and just happens to find one every two weeks, then carve them up in a methodical and consistent fashion? I hate to tell you, rookie, but our perp is way closer to the Joker than he is to Batman. Yeah, he only kills suspected criminals - just like Dahmer only killed homosexuals and Jack the Ripper only killed whores. No, don't even get offended at me, there is a long and venerable history of serial killers choosing 'acceptable' targets, but this psycho isn't gonna stop when a month goes by without finding one you approve of."

I've never watched Dexter either, but I did read the first novel in the series. Oooh, I like how she turned her own murderous instincts into self-defense. Two birds, one stone. Argh, why do writers do that?

You've thought about this. :D I love that whole idea though. It's kind of how some police departments let the gangs and drug dealers take each other out so they don't have to deal with them, in a sense. I'd read that if you wrote it. :D
