Musical quote of the day: "All the promises we make from the cradle to the grave, when all I want is you."

It's snowing. And my life could not be more perfect.

I just got back from my second meeting with the astrophysics research group. They answered my questions, handed me even more books to read, and told me to come on Wed. so they could set me up the programs and my data. I am going to be looking at infrared data of nearby radio loud active galactic nuclei. Basically we are looking to better understand FR I type galaxies and how they are differ from their brighter cousins FR IIs. The accretion disks that orbit the supermassive black holes thought to be the center of all galaxies reemit light in the infrared. By analyzing this data we are expecting to find that FR I galaxies have a considerably slower accretion rate, which is thought to be less efficient which would explain their lower luminosity. Perhaps FR II galaxies become FR I when they run out of mass to dump into the black hole and their accretion rate slows. Understanding this will help us understand galaxies in general better. It will help to answer the question: If all galaxies have a supermassive black hole in the center, why aren't all the accretion disks throwing out large amounts of energy that is why aren't all galactic nuclei active?

I have moved in with Sarah whose roommate transferred at the end of last quarter. I actually spend time in my room now. Sarah is completely awesome. She is about as ungirly as they come, laughs loudly, curses creatively, and enjoys dead baby jokes.

The story I am working on for creative writing has what might be considered a plot that is a series of events that are somewhat causally related.

I'm headed back to New England on Friday. Maybe someone will want to see me for the few days I'll be around.
