Cooley - Greenore 8-year Single Grain

Apr 10, 2011 22:21

Kudos to Cooley Distillery for shaking up the Irish whiskey industry.

After my folks brought home a custom-labeled bottle of Bushmills, I've started sampling some Irish whisky (I still need to post the Bushmills 10 notes and work up the courage to open the 12).

This is supposedly the only all-corn Irish whiskey on the market.

So,

Cooley Distillery
Greenore brand
8-year
Single Grain corn whiskey

Aged in first-fill ex-bourbon casks
40% alc/vol
$53.99

NOSE

Wheat. Grain. Hay. Parched grass. Dry malt.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Dry, simple, clean.

TASTE

The nose is true. This is dry wheat and milled grain. Enjoyable, but overly simple. Lacks depth.

FINISH

Extremely clean. Mellow. Barely perceptible hints of vanilla smoke.

THOUGHTS

Tasting fine Irish corn whisky was an experience, but, again, it's overly simplistic character and lack of depth leave something to be desired.
