The Balvenie 15-year old Single Barrel

Nov 27, 2010 20:41

Those of you following along have read just about everything I have to say about The Balvenie.

The Balvenie
15-year Single Barrel

Cask #1153
Bottle # 74 of 350

In Cask January 20, 1995
Bottled September 22, 2010

47.8% alc/vol
$72.95

NOSE

Wonderful. Good depth and complexity, especially for a single barrel. Strongly floral, with lavender at the front. I also found some smoky hints at the start, but they faded as it sat in the glass. Caramel and some vanilla. Overall, it's darker and richer than the past few Balvenie Single Barrels I've tried.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Darkly honeyed.

TASTE

Unusual depth for a single cask. The floral notes are strongly at the forefront, with lavender and alpine flowers dominating. There's some creaminess and some honey, with very light smoky whiffs in there somewhere.

FINISH

Some grassiness and feints of smoke. A good fade with a very slight burn.

THOUGHTS

Another Ace single barrel from The Balvenie. This one is more solid and complex when compared to other single barrels, and I'd love to get ahold of another bottling form the same distillation.
THIS is why I drink single malt scotch whisky. Every region, every distillery, every bottling and, here, every individual cask is different.
